Frequently asked questions
How long does Lactovos 10gm Syrup take to work?
The benefits of treatment with Lactovos 10gm Syrup typically start to appear within 2-3 days. However, if you continue to experience constipation after this timeframe, consult your doctor.
What is Lactovos 10gm Syrup used for?
Lactovos 10gm Syrup is prescribed for the treatment of constipation, which is characterized by infrequent bowel movements, hard and dry stools. It can also be used to address hepatic encephalopathy, a serious liver condition that manifests as confusion, tremors, and decreased levels of consciousness.
Is Lactovos 10gm Syrup a laxative?
Yes, Lactovos 10gm Syrup is a laxative. It works by softening stools by drawing water from the body into the large intestine. In addition, it helps to reduce the amount of ammonia present in the blood of individuals with liver disease.
What are the possible side effects of taking Lactovos 10gm Syrup?
Common side effects associated with Lactovos 10gm Syrup include diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Diarrhea and abdominal pain may occur due to a high dose; in such cases, the dosage should be reduced. Flatulence is often reported during the initial days of treatment and may subside over time. It's important to note that this medicine may also cause electrolyte imbalances. However, these side effects are uncommon.
Can I take Lactovos 10gm Syrup every day?
You should adhere to the prescribed dosage of Lactovos 10gm Syrup, which will be determined by your healthcare provider. It's important to continue the treatment for as long as directed. For hepatic encephalopathy, the treatment may require longer duration, potentially extending over several months.
Who should not take Lactovos 10gm Syrup?
Lactovos 10gm Syrup is contraindicated for individuals with a known allergy to it or lactose intolerance. Additionally, its use in patients with galactosemia, a rare genetic disorder that impairs the body's ability to process galactose, should be avoided.
Can I combine Lactovos 10gm Syrup with other laxatives?
Typically, one laxative is sufficient to address constipation. If a higher dosage is needed, your healthcare provider might recommend adding another laxative along with Lactovos 10gm Syrup. Combining two laxatives may increase the risk of side effects.
What if I exceed the recommended dose of Lactovos 10gm Syrup?
Exceeding the recommended dosage of Lactovos 10gm Syrup can lead to abdominal pain, electrolyte imbalance, and diarrhea, which may persist for several days.
How should I take Lactovos 10gm Syrup?
To ensure proper medication administration, carefully measure the prescribed dose using the provided measuring cup or spoon. You can consume it with water or fruit juice if you find the syrup to be overly sweet; however, prioritize drinking plenty of water for optimal results.
