Key Information

Short Description

Kosecef-O Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that treats bacterial infections in children and adolescents.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Kosecef-O Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that treats bacterial infections that may affect your child's eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bone and joints, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. It can also be used in treating typhoid fever in children and adolescents.

Directions for Use

Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Kosecef-O Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.

How it works

Kosecef-O Oral Suspension contains two antibiotics. Cefixime works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) while ofloxacin directly interacts with the genetic material of bacteria. As a consequence, the infection-causing bacteria stop growing further and the spread of the infection is successfully arrested.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or become resistant or cause another infection. Do not give this medicine for conditions like common cold and flu, which are caused by viruses. Only give Kosecef-O Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child's doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine.

Frequently asked questions

What if I give too much of Kosecef-O Oral Suspension by mistake?

Giving more than the prescribed dose of Kosecef-O Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause harm. If you believe a larger dose was given, contact your child's doctor immediately.

Are there any possible serious side effects of Kosecef-O Oral Suspension?

Serious side effects of this medicine may include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergic reactions, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. It's crucial to consult your child's doctor for help with any of these situations.

Can I give other medicines at the same time as Kosecef-O Oral Suspension?

It's best to discuss which medications are safe to administer alongside Kosecef-O Oral Suspension with your child's doctor. They can guide you on this matter, and also advise if any dosage adjustments might be necessary.

Can I get my child vaccinated while taking Kosecef-O Oral Suspension?

Generally, antibiotics don't interfere with vaccines or trigger adverse reactions. However, it's important to avoid vaccination until your child is fully recovered from the illness they are treated for. Once your child recovers, their doctor can decide if the vaccine should be administered.

Can Kosecef-O Oral Suspension impact my child’s digestion?

Children often experience digestive upset while taking antibiotics, including Kosecef-O Oral Suspension. When antibiotics are taken, they can potentially disrupt the balance of bacteria in their gut, increasing their vulnerability to other infections and leading to more diarrhea. In case your child is experiencing diarrhea while on Kosecef-O Oral Suspension, do not stop the medication. Contact your child’s doctor for guidance.

Can Kosecef-O Oral Suspension lead to bacterial resistance in my child?

Yes, prolonged or improper use of Kosecef-O Oral Suspension can contribute to antibiotic resistance in bacteria. Improper usage includes irregular dosing, repeated use without medical justification, and misuse of the medication itself, all of which can potentially lead to resistant strains of bacteria.

What should I tell the doctor before giving Kosecef-O Oral Suspension to my child?

It's crucial to inform your child’s doctor about any pre-existing health conditions such as heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (an allergy caused by sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis.
