Introduction
Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup?
Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup can sometimes interact with other medicines or substances. It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup. In addition, it is always best to consult your child's doctor before administering any medicine to them.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children recently vaccinated. However, it's recommended that children undergoing antibiotic therapy should wait until their illness is resolved before receiving any vaccinations. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Regularly, your doctor may order kidney and liver function tests during prolonged therapy to monitor your child's condition closely.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup to my child?
No, exceeding the recommended dosage of this medication can increase the risk of adverse effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, discontinuing this medicine before finishing the prescribed course is not recommended. Even if you observe symptom improvement, continue treatment as it may still offer beneficial effects.
Can the use of Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Kodimentin DS Dry Syrup can potentially cause diarrhea. It is an antibiotic that combats harmful bacteria. Additionally, this medication can disrupt the balance of helpful bacteria in your child's gut, leading to diarrhea. In such cases, encourage them to drink adequate fluids. If diarrhea persists or you notice signs like decreased urination, dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, seek immediate medical advice from their doctor.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most commonly, bacterial infections don't follow viral infections. In fact, administering antibiotics during a viral infection can potentially increase your child's risk of side effects. Therefore, only use antibiotics after consulting with their doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is not indicative of a need for antibiotics. During a typical cold, it's common for mucus to thicken and change color from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms typically last 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). While these side effects are rare, prompt expert intervention is crucial.
