How it works
Kleolin DS Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Kleolin DS Dry Syrup?
It is important to inform your child's doctor about all medications they are taking before starting Kleolin DS Dry Syrup. This includes over-the-counter drugs and vitamins, as well as any herbal remedies or supplements. Always check with your child's doctor before administering any medication to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Kleolin DS Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in a child who has just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not receive vaccinations until they have recovered from the illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Kleolin DS Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
To monitor for potential complications associated with long-term treatment, periodic kidney and liver function tests might be conducted by the doctor.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Kleolin DS Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a dose higher than the recommended amount can significantly increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, please consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Kleolin DS Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue the medication before completing the full course of treatment. Even if your child feels better, it's essential to continue the medicine for the duration prescribed by their doctor, as this may still be beneficial.
Can the use of Kleolin DS Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Kleolin DS Dry Syrup may induce diarrhea. This is because it acts by killing harmful bacteria. The medication can also affect your child's good gut bacteria, leading to diarrhea. In case of diarrhea, encourage your child to drink plenty of water or other fluids. If diarrhea persists and you notice any signs of dehydration (e.g., reduced urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine), consult a doctor before giving any other medication.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most cases of viral common colds do not lead to secondary bacterial infections. In fact, using antibiotics for viral infections can increase the risk of side effects and complications. Always consult your child's doctor before administering any antibiotic.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green nasal discharge does not necessarily indicate a need for antibiotics. During a typical common cold, the mucus thickens and changes color from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms usually last 7-10 days. It's important to monitor your child's condition.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
You should immediately contact your child's doctor if they experience a severe allergic reaction (breathing difficulties, skin rash), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). Though rare, these are serious side effects that require prompt medical attention.
