Key Information

Short Description

Kefex O Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that treats bacterial infections in children and adolescents.

Dosage Form

Syrup

Introduction

Kefex O Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that treats bacterial infections that may affect your child's eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bone and joints, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. It can also be used in treating typhoid fever in children and adolescents.

Directions for Use

Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.

How it works

Kefex O Syrup contains two antibiotics. Cefixime works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) while ofloxacin directly interacts with the genetic material of bacteria. As a consequence, the infection-causing bacteria stop growing further and the spread of the infection is successfully arrested.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Kefex O Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions Only give Kefex O Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child's doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine

Frequently asked questions

What if I give too much of Kefex O Syrup by mistake?

Giving an extra dose of Kefex O Syrup is unlikely to cause harm. However, it's crucial to contact a medical professional immediately if you suspect overdosing, as further complications may arise and worsen your child’s condition. Always consult a doctor for guidance in such situations.

Are there any possible serious side effects of Kefex O Syrup?

Potential serious side effects associated with this medication include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergic reactions, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. If you observe any of these symptoms in your child, seek immediate medical help.

Can other medicines be given at the same time as Kefex O Syrup?

There is a potential for interactions between Kefex O Syrup and certain medications or substances. It's essential to inform your child's doctor about all other medications they are currently taking before starting Kefex O Syrup. Additionally, always consult with your child’s doctor regarding any new medication administration.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Kefex O Syrup?

Generally, antibiotics don't interfere with vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently received one. However, it’s essential to wait until your child recovers from their illness before administering any vaccines after treatment for the infection has finished.

Can Kefex O Syrup impact my child’s digestion?

Children often experience digestive upset while taking antibiotics. These medicines can disrupt the balance of good and bad bacteria in their gut, leading to a higher risk of other infections. If your child is experiencing diarrhea while on Kefex O Syrup, do not stop the medication. Consult with your child's doctor for guidance regarding the next steps.

Can Kefex O Syrup lead to bacterial resistance in my child?

Yes, incorrect use of Kefex O Syrup can contribute to bacterial resistance. Factors like improper dosing regimens, unnecessary repeat usage, or misuse of the medication can result in resistant bacteria that are no longer killed by antibiotics and increase reinfection risks.

What should I tell the doctor before giving Kefex O Syrup to my child?

Before administering Kefex O Syrup to your child, inform the doctor if they have pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, genetic blood vessel disorders, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. This is because there's a potential for interactions and complications.
