Itralent-SB Capsule should be taken in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. It should be swallowed whole and can be taken with food. Frequently asked questions
What is Itralent-SB Capsule used for?
Itralent-SB Capsule is a prescription medication used to treat fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum, including ringworm infection, foot infections, groin and buttocks infections, persistent nail fungus (including those in the fingers or toes), and candidiasis (yeast) infections of the vagina, mouth, or throat in patients with lower disease resistance. It is also used to treat cryptococcal infection and infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
For how long do I need to take Itralent-SB Capsule?
The dose and duration of treatment depend on the type and site of fungal infection and your response to the treatment. It may be necessary to continue taking the medication for several months, such as 30 days for athlete's foot or up to a few weeks for Candida infections in specific locations, depending on individual needs and physician guidance.
I am taking Itralent-SB Capsule for nail infection but there does not seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you should not stop taking Itralent-SB Capsule without completing the entire course because doing so may not completely cure the fungal infection. It usually takes about 6-9 months for nail lesions to disappear because after the medicine eliminates the fungus, the new nail takes several months to grow. Please do not worry if you do not see any improvement during the treatment.
Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?
Your doctor is likely requesting blood tests to monitor your liver function. Itralent-SB Capsule can cause serious liver damage, so if you experience loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain while taking the medication, immediately notify your doctor.
Can I take antacid and Itralent-SB Capsule together?
Itralent-SB Capsule is generally utilized if there is sufficient acid in the stomach. Medicines for stomach ulcers, heartburn, or indigestion neutralize the acid produced by the stomach. Therefore, it is recommended to take antacids or any such medicine about 2 hours after taking Itralent-SB Capsule. If you are taking antacids (medicines that stop the production of stomach acid), take Itralent-SB Capsule capsules with a drink of cola.
What is drug resistance? Is it possible to develop resistance to Itralent-SB Capsule?
Drug resistance occurs when fungal cells in your body modify themselves, rendering the medication ineffective. This has been reported for some Candida species (krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis). Itralent-SB Capsule should not be used if the infection is due to these species. It's important to complete the full course of Itralent-SB Capsule to prevent resistance.
I have been on alprazolam for quite some time. Is it okay if I start taking Itralent-SB Capsule now?
Yes, you can take both Alprazolam and Itralent-SB Capsule together, but be mindful of possible side effects like lightheadedness or drowsiness. If these side effects occur after taking Itralent-SB Capsule, discuss them with your doctor who will adjust the dosage of Alprazolam.
My doctor prescribed Itralent-SB Capsule to me but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is it so?
Your doctor did not prescribe Itralent-SB Capsule to your friend because it can interfere with the function of dofetilide. This interference can disrupt heart rhythm, which might be harmful to the patient.
