Frequently asked questions
What is Itrakan 100mg Tablet used for?
Itrakan 100mg Tablet is used to treat fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. These infections can include ringworm, foot infection, groin and buttocks infections. It can also treat persistent infections of fingernails and toenails, persistent candidiasis (yeast) infections of the vagina or Candida yeast infections of the mouth or throat in patients with lower disease resistance. Additionally, it is used in the treatment of cryptococcal infection and infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
For how long do I need to take Itrakan 100mg Tablet?
The duration of treatment depends on the type and location of the infection and your response to therapy. For example, if you are taking Itrakan 100mg Tablet for athlete's foot (fungal skin infection of the feet and between the toes), the dose may require a span of 30 days. However, if you are taking it for candidal infection of the vagina, the dose might range from 1 day to 3 days depending on the dosage advised by your doctor.
I am taking Itrakan 100mg Tablet for nail infection but there does not seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you should not stop taking Itrakan 100mg Tablet without completing the entire course as this might not fully cure the fungal infection. Typically, it takes about 6-9 months for nail lesions to disappear because after the medicine eliminates the fungus, new nail growth takes several months to develop. Do not worry if you do not see any improvement during treatment.
Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?
Your doctor is likely monitoring your liver function as Itrakan 100mg Tablet may cause serious liver damage. If you develop loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain while taking Itrakan 100mg Tablet, tell your doctor immediately.
Can I take antacid and Itrakan 100mg Tablet together?
Itrakan 100mg Tablet can be used by the body if there is sufficient acid in the stomach. Medicines for stomach ulcers, heartburn, or indigestion neutralize the acid produced by the stomach. Therefore, take antacids or any such medication approximately 2 hours after taking Itrakan 100mg Tablet. If you are taking antacids (medicines that prevent the production of stomach acid), take Itrakan 100mg Tablet capsules with a drink of cola.
What is drug resistance? Is it possible to develop resistance to Itrakan 100mg Tablet?
Occasionally, the fungi change in your body and become resistant to the medicine. This is called drug resistance. Resistance to Itrakan 100mg Tablet has been reported with certain Candida species (Krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis). Itrakan 100mg Tablet should not be used for infections caused by these species. Take the complete course of Itrakan 100mg Tablet to avoid drug resistance.
I have been on alprazolam for quite some time. Is it okay if I start Itrakan 100mg Tablet now?

My doctor prescribed Itrakan 100mg Tablet to me but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is that?
