Frequently asked questions
What is Itracoe 400 SR Tablet used for?
Itracoe 400 SR Tablet is prescribed for the treatment of fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. This includes ringworm infection, infections of the feet, or infections in the groin and buttocks. It's also used to treat persistent fingernail and toenail infections, persistent candidiasis (yeast) infections of the vagina, or candidiasis (yeast) infections of the mouth or throat in patients with lower disease resistance. Itracoe 400 SR Tablet is also used for cryptococcal infection and infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
For how long do I need to take Itracoe 400 SR Tablet?
The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the type and site of the infection, as well as your response to treatment. For example, if you're taking Itracoe 400 SR Tablet for athlete’s foot (fungal infection of the skin on the feet and between the toes), the dose may need to be taken for 30 days. On the other hand, if you're treating candidiasis in the vagina, the treatment duration may vary from 1 day to 3 days, depending on the dosage prescribed by your doctor.
I am taking Itracoe 400 SR Tablet for nail infection but there does not seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you should not stop taking Itracoe 400 SR Tablet without completing the entire course because doing so may not completely cure the fungal infection. Nail lesions often take about 6-9 months to disappear as new nail growth takes several months after the medication has eliminated the fungus. If you don't see any improvement during treatment, this is normal.
Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?
Your doctor may be ordering blood tests to monitor your liver function, as Itracoe 400 SR Tablet can cause serious liver damage. If you experience symptoms such as loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain while taking Itracoe 400 SR Tablet, it's important to inform your doctor immediately.
Can I take antacid and Itracoe 400 SR Tablet together?
Itracoe 400 SR Tablet can be utilized by the body if there is sufficient acid in the stomach. Medicines for stomach ulcers, heartburn, or indigestion neutralize the acid produced by the stomach. Therefore, take antacids or any such medicine about 2 hours after taking Itracoe 400 SR Tablet. If you are taking antacids (medicines that stop the production of stomach acid), take Itracoe 400 SR tablets capsules with a drink of cola.
What is drug resistance? Is it possible to develop resistance to Itracoe 400 SR Tablet?
Drug resistance occurs when the fungus changes in your body so that the medication no longer works. This happens when fungi mutate over time, becoming resistant to treatment. There have been some reports of drug resistance with certain Candida species (krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis). Itracoe 400 SR Tablet should not be used for infections caused by these species. To avoid drug resistance, take the complete course of Itracoe 400 SR Tablet.
I have been on alprazolam for quite some time. Is it okay if I start Itracoe 400 SR Tablet now?
Yes, you can take both Alprazolam and Itracoe 400 SR Tablet together. However, pay attention to the side effects of Alprazolam such as lightheadedness or drowsiness. If you experience any side effects after combining these medications, speak to your doctor.
My doctor prescribed Itracoe 400 SR Tablet to me but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is it so?
