What is Itaspor Capsule used for?
Itaspor Capsule is indicated for treating fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. These infections may manifest as ringworm, foot infection, or groin/buttocks infection. It can also be utilized in the treatment of persistent nail infections (including fingernails and toenails), Candida yeast infections of the vagina, mouth, or throat (in patients with lower disease resistance). It is also used to treat cryptococcal infection and infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
How long do I need to take Itaspor Capsule?
The duration of treatment depends on the type and site of the infection and your individual response. For example, treating athlete’s foot (fungal infection of the skin on the feet and between the toes) may require a course spanning 30 days. On the other hand, treating candidal infections of the vagina might involve doses ranging from 1 day to 3 days depending on the prescribed dosage by your doctor.
I am taking Itaspor Capsule for nail infection but there does not seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you should not discontinue Itaspor Capsule without completing the entire course as stopping abruptly might not fully eradicate the fungal infection. Typically, it takes about 6-9 months for nail lesions to disappear; this is because after medication eliminates the fungus, new nail growth takes time. Don't worry if there isn’t noticeable improvement during treatment.
Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?
Your doctor may have requested blood tests to monitor your liver function. Itaspor Capsule can cause serious liver damage, and if you experience signs like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain while taking it, please inform your physician immediately.
Can I take antacids and Itaspor Capsule together?
Itaspor Capsule can be utilized effectively when there is sufficient acid in the stomach. Medicines for heartburn or indigestion neutralize stomach acid. Therefore, it's best to take antacids or such medications 2 hours after taking Itaspor Capsule. If you're taking antacids (stomach acid inhibitors), consume Itaspor Capsule capsules with a drink of cola.
What is drug resistance? Is it possible to develop resistance to Itaspor Capsule?
Drug resistance occurs when fungi in the body change and the medication no longer works as intended. This is also known as phenotypic or metabolic drug resistance. Resistance to Itaspor Capsule has been reported with some Candida species ( krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis). Itaspor Capsule should not be used for infections caused by these species.
I have been on alprazolam for quite some time. Is it okay if I start taking Itaspor Capsule now?
Yes, you can take both Alprazolam and Itaspor Capsule together; however, be cautious of potential side effects such as lightheadedness or drowsiness that may occur with Alprazolam. If you experience any adverse reactions after starting Itaspor Capsule, please consult your doctor who will adjust the dosage of Alprazolam.
My doctor prescribed Itaspor Capsule to me but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is it so?
Your doctor did not prescribe Itaspor Capsule to your friend because it interacts with dofetilide, interfering with its normal function. This interaction can disrupt the electrical activity of the heart, which may be harmful.
