Frequently asked questions
Can I take Ipozole Capsule with domperidone?
This medicine can be safely taken with domperidone as no harmful effects have been reported clinically. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also available. Domperidone works by increasing gut motility, and Ipozole Capsule decreases stomach acid production. Therefore, this combination is very effective in treating reflux esophagitis, heartburn, intestinal, and stomach ulcers.
What should I know before taking Ipozole Capsule?
Do not take Ipozole Capsule if you are already on medications containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor if you experience persistent diarrhea, vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, trouble swallowing, stomach pain, or indigestion. Before starting this medicine, inform your doctor about all other medications you are taking as they may affect, or be affected by, Ipozole Capsule. You should also tell your doctor if you have had an allergic skin reaction with this medication. It is not recommended for children under 1 year of age or those weighing less than 10 kg. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before taking this medication to avoid possible harm to the baby.
Can Ipozole Capsule cause diarrhea?
Yes, it may cause diarrhea as a side effect in some people. While this is usually not severe, if you experience persistent watery stools that do not go away along with stomach cramps and fever, seek medical attention immediately.
For how long can I take Ipozole Capsule?
Take it as prescribed by your doctor for as long as necessary. The duration may vary based on your condition. Do not stop taking this medication without consulting your doctor.
Can Ipozole Capsule cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
It can lead to osteoporosis (thinning of bones) by decreasing calcium absorption, which increases the risk of bone fractures over the long term. Consult your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions like osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids, as these medications can increase the risk of osteoporosis. Your doctor may suggest calcium or vitamin D supplements to mitigate this risk.
What are the long-term side effects of Ipozole Capsule?
Long-term use (over 3 months) can lead to certain side effects, such as low magnesium levels in the blood (which may cause fatigue, confusion, dizziness, tremors, or lightheadedness). You might also experience muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat. If used for more than a year, you may have an increased risk of bone fractures (due to calcium deficiency), especially in your hip, wrist, or spine. Stomach infections and vitamin B12 deficiency can also occur, potentially leading to anemia. You may also experience palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling, or difficulty walking.
Does Ipozole Capsule cause vitamin deficiencies?
It may lead to vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. The medicine causes a decrease in gastric acid secretion which hinders the absorption of Vitamin B12 from the stomach, requiring supplements. While vitamin C deficiency's clinical significance is not well-known, supplementation is not recommended.
Can Ipozole Capsule be used by cardiac patients?
Cardiac patients can take this medicine under their doctor’s supervision. However, it can interact with certain drugs like clopidogrel and digoxin, which are commonly prescribed for cardiac conditions. Close monitoring by a doctor is necessary if these medications are being combined.
