How it works
Ikclav DS Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Ikclav DS Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Ikclav DS Dry Syrup?
Ikclav DS Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. It is crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Ikclav DS Dry Syrup. It is also important to consult with your child's doctor before giving any medication to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Ikclav DS Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a bad reaction in children who have just been vaccinated. However, before giving any vaccination to a child taking antibiotics, it is advisable to consult with your child's doctor. Once your child is feeling better, the vaccine can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Ikclav DS Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
With prolonged therapy, the doctor may periodically monitor kidney and liver function tests to assess your child's overall condition.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Ikclav DS Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher than recommended dose of this medicine can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult with your doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Ikclav DS Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, do not stop giving this medication to your child unless the full course of treatment is complete, even if you feel better. Symptoms may improve before the infection is completely cured. Therefore, continue giving the medicine for the intended duration as it may still be showing beneficial effects.
Can the use of Ikclav DS Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Ikclav DS Dry Syrup can cause diarrhea. This is because the medicine kills harmful bacteria and also affects the good bacteria in your child's stomach. In case of diarrhea, encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids. If diarrhea persists, talk to your doctor about any signs of dehydration (such as reduced urination with dark or strong-smelling urine). Do not administer any other medication without consulting a doctor.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most common colds do not result in secondary bacterial infections. In fact, antibiotics should be used only after consulting with your child's doctor in cases of suspected bacterial infection.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily indicate that antibiotics are needed. A common cold often leads to thick mucus change from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms usually last for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
You must contact your child's doctor immediately if they experience serious allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). Although rare, these side effects are serious and necessitate professional attention.
