How it works
Humalog Mix 50 100IU/ml Cartridge is a combination of two insulin preparations:
Quick Tips
Take it 15 minutes before a meal or within 20 minutes after starting a meal. Injection below the skin of the abdomen results in faster absorption as compared to other injection sites such as skin of the upper arms, thighs, or buttocks. After injection, the site of injection should not be massaged. Injection sites must be rotated to prevent hard lumps from developing at one site. Change to another type or brand of insulin should be done under strict medical supervision as it may require a change in dosage.

Frequently asked questions
How do you inject a dose of insulin?
Before injecting, wash your hands and clean the skin as instructed. Remove the outer needle cap and stabilize the skin by spreading it or pinching up a large area. Insert the needle as directed, press the knob, pull out the needle, and apply gentle pressure over the injection site for several seconds. Dispose of the needle safely.
How do you prepare your Humalog Mix 50 100IU/ml Cartridge device before taking an injection?
To resuspend the insulin, rotate the device in your palms ten times and invert it 180° ten times immediately before use. If the contents are not uniformly cloudy or milky, repeat the procedure until they are mixed properly. Do not shake vigorously as this may cause frothing which can interfere with accurate measurement.
Do you need to prime your pen before using it?
Yes, you must prime your pen by turning the dose knob to 2 units, holding the needle pointing up, and pushing the dose knob in until it stops at '0' in the dose window. Hold the dose knob in for five seconds to see insulin at the tip of the needle.
What should you do if the dose knob of your pen is hard to push?
If the dose knob is difficult to push, try pushing more slowly or inserting a new needle and priming the pen again.
What are the potential side effects of Humalog Mix 50 100IU/ml Cartridge?
Common side effects include low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) which can cause symptoms like listlessness, confusion, palpitations, headache, sweating, and vomiting. In severe cases, there may be life-threatening allergic reactions or reactions at the injection site.
What should you do if you're experiencing any side effects?
If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor for advice.

Medications like corticosteroids, isoniazid, certain lipid-lowering drugs (e.g., niacin), estrogens, oral contraceptives, phenothiazines, and thyroid replacement therapy may increase insulin needs.
Which medications can decrease insulin requirements in patients?
Drugs that increase insulin sensitivity or have hypoglycemic activity, such as oral antidiabetic agents, salicylates, sulfa antibiotics, certain antidepressants (monoamine oxidase inhibitors), angiotensin-converting-enzyme inhibitors, beta-adrenergic blockers, and alcohol, may decrease insulin requirements.
