How it works
Hilclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

It is crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking before starting treatment with Hilclav Dry Syrup. Additionally, consult your child's doctor for guidance on administering any medication to your child.
Can I receive vaccinations while my child is under treatment with Hilclav Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics do not typically interfere with vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children who have received one recently. However, it's recommended that your child does not receive a vaccine until they recover from the underlying illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered. Consult your doctor for specific guidance.
Which lab tests may be performed during long-term use of Hilclav Dry Syrup?
Periodically, monitoring kidney and liver function tests may be necessary to assess the effect of prolonged treatment with Hilclav Dry Syrup on your child's health.
Can I administer a higher dose of Hilclav Dry Syrup than the recommended dosage?
Providing a higher dose of Hilclav Dry Syrup can increase the likelihood of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, please consult your doctor for reevaluation.
Can I stop giving Hilclav Dry Syrup to my child once symptoms improve?
No, it's crucial not to stop giving this medication unless the full course of treatment is complete. Symptoms may subside before the infection is fully cleared. Continue administering the medicine as prescribed until the treatment course is completed.
Can Hilclav Dry Syrup cause diarrhea in children?
Yes, Hilclav Dry Syrup can cause diarrhea. It's an antibiotic that eliminates harmful bacteria. Additionally, the medication might affect the beneficial bacteria in your child's stomach and lead to diarrhea. Encourage your child to consume fluids like water if they experience diarrhea. If you notice persistent diarrhea or signs of dehydration (reduced urine frequency, dark-colored and strong-smelling urine), consult your doctor.
Does using Hilclav Dry Syrup always result in a secondary bacterial infection?
Usually, bacteria don't follow viral infections. It is essential to only use antibiotics after consulting with your child’s doctor as directed and advised. Do not administer antibiotics without first seeking professional advice.
