Acarbose (25mg)
Hibose 25mg Tablet is used to treat people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It helps lower blood sugar levels after meals.
Tablet
Hibose 25mg Tablet should be taken just before or along with the first few bites of the meal. The dose and how often you need it will be decided by your doctor so that you get the right amount to control your blood sugar levels. It may be increased gradually. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor. If you do, your blood sugar levels may increase and put you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is only part of a treatment program that should also include a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Hibose 25mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Hibose 25mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine. It inhibits the intestinal enzymes responsible for breaking complex sugars into simple sugars such as glucose. This prevents blood glucose levels from rising very high immediately after meals.
Along with your regular doctor visit you might also need regular check-ups with an eye clinic and a foot clinic as well. Your doctor will also advise you to test for sugar in your blood using a home diabetes test kit regularly to check that your sugar level is being controlled. Along with a healthy diet, indulge in light exercises regularly and quit smoking and drinking. If you feel excessively thirsty, pass urine more frequently, and get tired easily, then let your doctor know. These are the signs of very high sugar levels in your blood and your treatment may need adjusting. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur if Hibose 25mg Tablet is taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or on delaying/skipping a meal. Check your blood sugar levels and have a snack/sugar source for immediate relief.
Hibose 25mg Tablet does not directly cause hypoglycemia. However, it can indirectly lead to a decrease in blood sugar levels when taken with other antidiabetic medications or insulin. If you experience significant drops in blood sugar, consult your doctor as they may need to adjust your medication dosage.
Hibose 25mg Tablet inhibits the breakdown of carbohydrates, leading to their accumulation in the colon. This accumulation causes bacterial fermentation, resulting in gas and flatulence.
Yes, diarrhea is a possible side effect of Hibose 25mg Tablet. However, it is not a universal experience. Any food containing carbohydrates, such as sugar (cane sugar), can trigger diarrhea and abdominal pain in some individuals. If you experience persistent or severe diarrhea, please seek immediate medical attention from your doctor.
Hibose 25mg Tablet should be taken with meals and swallowed whole with water or chewed with the first mouthful of food. The initial dose is typically twice daily, but it can gradually increase to thrice daily.
If you miss a dose of Hibose 25mg Tablet, do not take the missed dose later in the day. Simply continue your usual dosing schedule and follow the prescribed plan.
Exceeding the recommended dose of Hibose 25mg Tablet may lead to temporary increased flatulence (gas), diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. It is advisable to avoid consuming carbohydrates for the next 4-6 hours after exceeding the dosage.
Individuals who are allergic to Hibose 25mg Tablet, those with severe liver disease, or those with inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., Crohn's disease) should avoid its use. Additionally, individuals with a suspected intestinal obstruction (abdominal pain, vomiting, constipation), large hernias, or malabsorption syndromes must not take it.
