How it works
Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup?
It is crucial to inform your child's doctor about all other medications your child is currently taking before starting Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup. This will help avoid potential interactions or complications. Always consult with your child's doctor before administering any medicine, even over-the-counter ones.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics are generally not expected to interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently received one. However, it's essential for your child to delay vaccination until they recover from their illness completely. When feeling better, the vaccine can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
With prolonged use, regular monitoring for kidney and liver function through blood tests is recommended. This helps ensure the treatment's effectiveness and identifies any potential side effects.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher than recommended dose of this medication can increase the risk of adverse reactions. If your child experiences increased symptom severity, please consult with your doctor for reevaluation.
Can I stop giving Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
No, do not stop administering this medication unless the full course of treatment is completed. Even if you feel better, symptoms may improve before the infection is fully cured. Continued medication per the prescribed course ensures the medicine continues to have beneficial effects.
Can the use of Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Gruclav Forte Dry Syrup can cause diarrhea. This is a common side effect as it helps kill harmful bacteria in your child's body. While this may happen due to the treatment itself, it also affects the beneficial bacteria present in the stomach and might result in diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water or other fluids if experiencing this side effect. Consult with your doctor if diarrhea persists and you notice any signs of dehydration like reduced urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine. Never give your child any other medication without consulting a doctor first.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most often, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. In fact, giving antibiotics in a viral infection could increase the risk of side effects. Therefore, use antibiotics only after consulting with your child's doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily indicate a bacterial infection. It is common during a common cold for mucus to thicken and change color, usually lasting for 7-10 days. Please contact your child's doctor if any concerns arise.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
You must call your child’s doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These are rare but serious side effects and require prompt expert attention.
