How it works
Greymox CV Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect Never give Greymox CV Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor Do not give Greymox CV Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses Check 'expiry' before giving Greymox CV Syrup to your child. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Greymox CV Syrup?
Greymox CV Syrup may interact with certain medications or substances. Before starting Greymox CV Syrup, it is crucial to inform your child's doctor about all other medications they are currently taking. Additionally, always consult a medical professional before administering any medicine to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Greymox CV Syrup?
Antibiotics generally do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have just received one. However, it is essential for children taking antibiotics to avoid getting vaccinated until they have fully recovered from the underlying illness. Once the child recovers, vaccination can be administered.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Greymox CV Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically, the doctor might order kidney and liver function tests to monitor your child's condition when treated for a prolonged period with Greymox CV Syrup.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Greymox CV Syrup to my child?
Overdosing on this medication can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsened symptoms, consult their doctor for reassessment.
Can I stop giving Greymox CV Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue the medication without completing the full prescribed course of treatment, even if you notice symptom relief. The infection may still be fully cured in the process and the medicine might be providing additional benefits.
Can Greymox CV Syrup cause diarrhea in children?
Greymox CV Syrup can cause diarrhea. This is because it's an antibiotic that targets harmful bacteria. Moreover, this medication may also alter the balance of good bacteria in your child's gut, leading to diarrhea. To alleviate diarrhea, encourage your child to drink fluids like water or clear liquids.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral common colds do not lead to bacterial infections. In fact, prescribing antibiotics for a viral infection can increase the risk of side effects and should be avoided unless instructed by a doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is this a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily signify the need for antibiotics. During a common cold, it is normal for mucus to thicken and change from clear to yellow or green. It often persists for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
If your child experiences severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting), immediately contact their doctor. These can be serious side effects and require immediate medical intervention.
