Frequently asked questions
What is the suitable timing for taking Golbi 150 Tablet?
The timing of taking Golbi 150 Tablet may vary depending on your condition. Your doctor might instruct you to take 2 to 3 doses per day, with the last dose taken at bedtime. It can be taken with water, milk, and food or after food. For dissolving gallstones, it is usually recommended to be taken once daily at night. Ideally, it should be taken at a gap of 6 hours, such as at 8 am, 2 pm, and 8 pm.
Is Golbi 150 Tablet safe?
Golbi 150 Tablet is generally considered safe and effective. However, common side effects may include diarrhea. If diarrhea occurs, your doctor may reduce the dose or discontinue treatment if it persists. Long-term therapy with this medicine may also affect liver enzyme levels, which will be closely monitored by your doctor.
How does Golbi 150 Tablet help the liver?
Golbi 150 Tablet acts on the liver and becomes concentrated in bile secreted from the liver. This reduces cholesterol synthesis and secretion by the liver, lowering bile cholesterol levels. The medicine also stops the intestines from absorbing bile salts and cholesterol, leading to reduced cholesterol saturation in bile and the gradual dissolving of gallstones.
Does Golbi 150 Tablet cause weight gain?
Yes, there is a chance of weight gain with Golbi 150 Tablet, but it's not common. Weight gain may occur in patients with liver disease associated with chronic bile stasis in small bile ducts. Consult your doctor if you experience weight gain.
What should I avoid while taking Golbi 150 Tablet?
While taking Golbi 150 Tablet, avoid taking antacid preparations without consulting your doctor, as they decrease the effectiveness of the medicine. Also, avoid medicines like cholestyramine or colestipol, which affect the effectiveness of Golbi 150 Tablet. Ask your doctor about maintaining a time gap between these medications and Golbi 150 Tablet. Additionally, avoid oral contraceptives, estrogenic hormones, and blood cholesterol-lowering agents such as clofibrate, as they may increase the chances of developing gallstones and act opposite to Golbi 150 Tablet.
