Tablet
Glukem 25mg Tablet should be taken just before or along with the first few bites of the meal. The dose and frequency will be decided by your doctor to control your blood sugar levels effectively. It may be increased gradually. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor, as your blood sugar levels may increase, putting you at risk of serious complications like kidney damage and blindness. This medicine is part of a treatment program that includes a healthy diet, regular exercise, and weight reduction as advised by your doctor. Monitor your blood sugar levels regularly while taking this medicine. The most common side effects are gastrointestinal discomfort and flatulence. Consult your doctor if these bother you or do not go away. Glukem 25mg Tablet by itself does not cause hypoglycemia, but when used with other diabetes medicines, it can lead to hypoglycemia. Such episodes should be treated by taking plain glucose. Before taking it, inform your doctor if you have any kidney or liver problems. Do not take this medicine if you have ulceration or inflammation in the bowel. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before taking it. Avoid excessive alcohol intake while taking this medicine as it may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush, or break it. Glukem 25mg Tablet is to be taken with food.
Glukem 25mg Tablet is an anti-diabetic medicine. It inhibits the intestinal enzymes responsible for breaking complex sugars into simple sugars such as glucose. This prevents blood glucose levels from rising very high immediately after meals.
Along with your regular doctor visit, you might also need regular check-ups with an eye clinic and a foot clinic. Your doctor will advise you to test for sugar in your blood using a home diabetes test kit regularly to check that your sugar level is being controlled. Along with a healthy diet, indulge in light exercises regularly and quit smoking and drinking. If you feel excessively thirsty, pass urine more frequently, and get tired easily, let your doctor know. These are signs of very high sugar levels in your blood and your treatment may need adjusting. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) may occur if Glukem 25mg Tablet is taken along with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol, or on delaying/skipping a meal. Check your blood sugar levels and have a snack/sugar source for immediate relief.
Glukem 25mg Tablet does not directly cause hypoglycemia. However, it may contribute to a decrease in blood sugar levels when used alongside other antidiabetic medications or insulin. If you experience significant or unexpected drops in blood sugar levels, consult your doctor for guidance on potential dose adjustments.
Glukem 25mg Tablet inhibits the digestion of carbohydrates. This process leads to the accumulation of undigested carbohydrates in the colon, which then undergoes bacterial fermentation. This fermentation generates intestinal gas, resulting in the occurrence of flatulence and abdominal discomfort.
Diarrhea is a possible side effect of Glukem 25mg Tablet. However, its prevalence varies among individuals. Certain foods containing carbohydrates, such as sugar (cane sugar), can trigger both diarrhea and severe abdominal pain.
Glukem 25mg Tablet is typically taken with meals. It should be swallowed whole, accompanied by water or a small amount of food (such as a bite of bread) to prevent the tablet from irritating the stomach.
If you miss a dose of Glukem 25mg Tablet, do not immediately try to make up for it by taking an extra tablet. Wait until the scheduled time and continue with your daily regimen. Do not double dose.
Exceeding the recommended dosage of Glukem 25mg Tablet may lead to a temporary increase in flatulence (gas build-up), diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. For 4-6 hours after exceeding the prescribed amount, avoid consuming foods or beverages containing carbohydrates.
Glukem 25mg Tablet is contraindicated in individuals with: allergies to the drug, severe liver disease, or inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease. Additionally, its use should be restricted in patients experiencing intestinal obstruction (including cramping pain, vomiting, obstipation, and lack of flatus). It is also unsuitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women.
