It is a serious medical condition that occurs when there is an excess build-up of lactic acid in the blood, often known as MALA (Metformin-associated lactic acidosis). This is a rare side effect associated with metformin use and may pose risks for individuals with existing kidney problems, older age, or heavy alcohol consumption.
