Frequently asked questions
What is Glospor SB 50mg Capsule used for?
Glospor SB 50mg Capsule is a prescription medication used to treat fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. It can be used to treat ringworm infection, infections of the feet, or infections in the groin and buttocks. Glospor SB 50mg Capsule also treats persistent fingernail and toenail fungal infections, as well as persistent candidiasis (yeast) infections of the vagina, mouth, or throat in patients with lower disease resistance. It is prescribed for treatment of cryptococcal infection, and for other fungal infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.
For how long do I need to take Glospor SB 50mg Capsule?
The duration of treatment with Glospor SB 50mg Capsule depends on the type and site of infection. For instance, for athlete’s foot (fungal infection of the skin on the feet and between the toes), the dose may be taken for 30 days. For candidiasis infections of the vagina, however, the dosage might vary from 1 day to 3 days depending on doctor's recommendations.
I am taking Glospor SB 50mg Capsule for nail infection but there does not seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?
No, you must not discontinue Glospor SB 50mg Capsule without completing the entire course as this may not fully cure the fungal infection. It often takes several months for nail lesions to disappear because after the medication eliminates the fungus, new nails grow and take several months to fully develop. Do not stop taking Glospor SB 50mg Capsule if you don’t see any immediate improvement during the treatment.
Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?
Your doctor is probably trying to monitor your liver function. It's important to know that Glospor SB 50mg Capsule can cause serious liver damage, so if you experience symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain while taking this medication, inform your doctor immediately.
Can I take antacid and Glospor SB 50mg Capsule together?
Glospor SB 50mg Capsule can be utilized by the body if there is sufficient acid in the stomach. Medicines for stomach ulcers, heartburn, or indigestion neutralize the acid produced by the stomach. Therefore, it's recommended to take antacids or similar medicines approximately two hours after taking Glospor SB 50mg Capsule. If you are taking antacids, you should also combine them with a drink of cola.
What is drug resistance? Is it possible to develop resistance to Glospor SB 50mg Capsule?
Sometimes the fungi in your body change and the medication becomes ineffective. This is known as drug resistance. Resistance to Glospor SB 50mg Capsule has been reported with some candida species (krusei, glabrata, and tropicalis). It's essential to ensure that you finish the prescribed dose of Glospor SB 50mg Capsule for optimal treatment.
I have been on alprazolam for quite some time. Is it okay if I start Glospor SB 50mg Capsule now?
Yes, you can take both Alprazolam and Glospor SB 50mg Capsule together. However, be mindful of the side effects of Alprazolam like lightheadedness or drowsiness. If these side effects appear after taking Glospor SB 50mg Capsule, talk to your doctor who will adjust your Alprazolam dosage.
My doctor prescribed Glospor SB 50mg Capsule to me but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is it so?
The prescription for Glospor SB 50mg Capsule may have been altered in your friend's case due to the drug interaction with dofetilide. This interaction can cause disturbances in heart electrical activity, which could be harmful.
