How it works
Glimibert-M 1 Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Glimepiride and Metformin. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting and stomach pain as Glimibert-M 1 Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.

Store this medicine in its original container or package, tightly closed. Refer to the instructions provided on the packaging label for specific guidance on storage. Do not use any unused medication if it is past the expiry date and dispose of it appropriately.
Can the use of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet lead to lactic acidosis?
Yes, the use of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet can contribute to lactic acidosis. This is a rare but serious side effect that arises from elevated levels of lactic acid in the blood. It's also known as MALA (Metformin-associated lactic acidosis). While it can affect individuals with pre-existing kidney disease, older age, or heavy alcohol consumption, it's crucial to seek medical advice immediately if you experience symptoms like muscle pain or weakness, dizziness, tiredness, a feeling of cold in the arms and legs, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, or slow heart rate. Discontinue Glimibert-M 1 Tablet and consult your doctor.
What is Glimibert-M 1 Tablet?
Glimibert-M 1 Tablet is a combination of two active ingredients: Glimepiride and Metformin. This medication is used in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). It helps to manage blood glucose levels for adults who are taking proper diet and exercise routine along with this medicine. Glimepiride works by increasing insulin release from the pancreas, while Metformin helps reduce glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity.
What are the possible side effects of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet?
While generally considered safe, Glimibert-M 1 Tablet may lead to some common side effects such as hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), altered taste, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, and headache. It is crucial to seek medical attention if you experience severe or unexplained symptoms.
Can the use of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet lead to Vitamin B12 deficiency?
Yes, long-term use of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet can cause Vitamin B12 deficiency. It interferes with vitamin B12 absorption in the stomach. This can potentially lead to anemia and nerve problems like tingling sensations, numbness in hands and feet, weakness, urinary problems, changes in mental status, and difficulty maintaining balance (ataxia). To prevent such complications, a regular intake of supplemental Vitamin B12 from various sources is recommended at least once every year.
Can the use of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet cause hypoglycemia?
Yes, the use of Glimibert-M 1 Tablet can lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level). Symptoms of hypoglycemia include nausea, headache, irritability, hunger, sweating, dizziness, fast heart rate, and feeling anxious or shaky. It is more likely to occur if you miss meals, drink alcohol, engage in excessive exercise, or use other medications with similar effects, such as those for diabetes management. Regular blood sugar monitoring is crucial to manage hypoglycemia effectively.
Is it safe to take alcohol while I am also taking Glimibert-M 1 Tablet?
No, it's not recommended to consume alcohol in combination with Glimibert-M 1 Tablet. Alcohol can lower blood sugar levels, increasing the risk of hypoglycemia and potentially triggering lactic acidosis.
