How it works
Glimatica-M1 Tablet is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines: Glimepiride and Metformin. It can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level) when used with other antidiabetic medicines, alcohol or if you delay or miss a meal. Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing or if you have persistent nausea, vomiting and stomach pain as Glimatica-M1 Tablet may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.

Frequently asked questions
What are the recommended storage conditions for Glimatica-M1 Tablet?
Store Glimatica-M1 Tablet in its original container or package, tightly closed, following instructions provided on the packaging. Dispose of unused medicine to avoid misuse by pets, children, and other individuals.
Can the use of Glimatica-M1 Tablet lead to lactic acidosis?
Yes, using Glimatica-M1 Tablet can increase the risk of lactic acidosis. This is a medical emergency caused by elevated lactic acid levels in the blood. It's also known as MALA (Metformin-associated lactic acidosis) and is a rare side effect associated with metformin use. It poses a greater risk for those with kidney disease, older adults, or individuals who consume excessive alcohol. Symptoms of lactic acidosis may include muscle pain or weakness, dizziness, fatigue, chills in arms and legs, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, or slow heart rate. If experiencing these symptoms, immediately discontinue Glimatica-M1 Tablet and consult a physician.
What is Glimatica-M1 Tablet?
Glimatica-M1 Tablet is a combination of Glimepiride and Metformin, used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). It helps regulate blood glucose levels in adults. Glimepiride enhances insulin release from the pancreas, while Metformin reduces glucose production by the liver and improves insulin sensitivity. This combination isn't indicated for treating type 1 DM.
What are the possible side effects of Glimatica-M1 Tablet?
Common side effects associated with Glimatica-M1 Tablet include hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), altered taste, nausea, stomach pain, diarrhea, and headaches. However, it can also lead to rare but serious side effects like lactic acidosis. In the long term, regular use may increase the risk of Vitamin B12 deficiency.
Can Glimatica-M1 Tablet cause Vitamin B12 deficiency?
Yes, prolonged use of Glimatica-M1 Tablet can lead to Vitamin B12 deficiency. It interferes with the absorption of Vitamin B12 in the stomach, and if untreated, may lead to anemia, nerve problems like tingling or numbness in hands and feet, weakness, urinary issues, changes in mental status, and difficulty maintaining balance (ataxia). To avoid such risks, some experts suggest consuming additional Vitamin B12 from external sources at least once annually.
Can Glimatica-M1 Tablet cause hypoglycemia?
Yes, Glimatica-M1 Tablet can lead to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar levels). Common symptoms include nausea, headache, irritability, hunger, sweating, dizziness, a rapid heart rate, and feelings of anxiety or shakiness. This is more likely to occur if you miss meals, drink alcohol, overexert yourself, or use other antidiabetic medications concurrently.
Is it safe to take alcohol while taking Glimatica-M1 Tablet?
No, drinking alcohol when taking Glimatica-M1 Tablet is not recommended. It can lower blood sugar levels and increase the risk of hypoglycemia. In addition, it increases the likelihood of lactic acidosis.
