How it works
Giamox CV Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Giamox CV Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Giamox CV Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Giamox CV Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Giamox CV Dry Syrup to your child. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Giamox CV Dry Syrup?
Giamox CV Dry Syrup can sometimes interact with other medications or substances. It is important to inform your child's doctor about any other medicines they are taking before starting Giamox CV Dry Syrup. Always check with your child's healthcare professional before administering any medication to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Giamox CV Dry Syrup?
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, it's recommended to wait until your child recovers from the illness before giving them a vaccine. If they feel better, a vaccine can be administered once their condition has improved.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Giamox CV Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodic kidney and liver function tests might be required for long-term therapy to monitor your child's condition.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Giamox CV Dry Syrup to my child?
It is not advisable to exceed the prescribed dosage of this medicine. Excessive doses may increase the likelihood of adverse side effects. If your child experiences increased symptoms, consult their doctor for further evaluation.
Can I stop giving Giamox CV Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue this medication until the entire course of treatment has been completed. Even if your child experiences symptom improvement, continuing the medication can ensure a more complete cure. The medicine's effects may continue even after symptoms improve.
Can the use of Giamox CV Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Giamox CV Dry Syrup can sometimes lead to diarrhea. This is due to the antibiotic action which affects both harmful bacteria and beneficial gut bacteria, leading to disruption in the normal digestive process. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if experiencing diarrhea, and consult their doctor for any persistent or concerning symptoms such as dehydration (reduced urination, dark-colored urine). Do not administer any other medications without consulting a healthcare professional.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
While most viral cold infections do not directly lead to bacterial infections, it's important to note that antibiotics should only be used after a consultation with a child's doctor. In some instances, certain bacteria can thrive and cause an infection following a viral illness.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green nasal discharge often occurs in the context of a common cold and is usually not a direct indication of bacterial infection. The color change can be due to an increase in thickness as your child's body fights off the virus. It is normal for symptoms to last for 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Seek immediate medical attention if you notice signs of a severe allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). Although rare, these are serious side effects requiring urgent professional care.
