Gasoft 20mg Tablet is best taken one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dose will depend on your underlying condition and how you respond to the medicine. Can Gasoft 20mg Tablet cause calcium deficiency and osteoporosis?
Yes, it can cause osteoporosis (thinning of bones) as it decreases the absorption of calcium leading to calcium deficiency. This increases the risk of bone fractures on long-term use, especially in the hip, wrist or spine. Inform your doctor if you have osteoporosis or are taking corticosteroids (which may increase the risk of osteoporosis). Consult your doctor for ways to prevent this. Your doctor might advise you calcium or vitamin D supplements to reduce the risk.
What are the long-term side effects of Gasoft 20mg Tablet?
Long-term use may lead to complications, like low magnesium levels in your blood which can cause fatigue, dizziness, and other symptoms. Muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat might also occur. If taken for more than a year, there’s an increased risk of fractures (due to decreased calcium levels), stomach infections, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Vitamin B12 deficiency can lead to anemia with tiredness, weakness, and pale skin. Additionally, you may experience palpitations, shortness of breath, lightheadedness, indigestion, loss of appetite, flatulence (gas), or nerve problems such as numbness, tingling and walking difficulty.
Does Gasoft 20mg Tablet cause vitamin deficiencies?
It may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. Vitamin B12 absorption is hindered by the medicine's effect on gastric acid secretion. You may need to take vitamin B12 supplements along with it. The clinical significance of decreasing vitamin C levels has not been fully established, so supplementation isn't necessary.
