Introduction
Gaimox CL DS Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Gaimox CL DS Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Gaimox CL DS Syrup?
It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about all medications they're taking before starting Gaimox CL DS Syrup. This ensures safe co-administration and minimizes potential interactions.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Gaimox CL DS Syrup?
Typically, antibiotics don't interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children after vaccination. However, it is essential to consult the doctor before administering vaccines to a child already taking antibiotics. Once your child recovers from their illness, they can receive the vaccine.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Gaimox CL DS Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodic kidney and liver function tests may be necessary during prolonged therapy to monitor your child's overall health.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Gaimox CL DS Syrup to my child?
It is not advisable to exceed the recommended dosage of this medication. Doing so can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, contact their doctor for further evaluation.
Can I stop giving Gaimox CL DS Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Never abruptly discontinue this medicine without consulting a healthcare professional, even if you notice improvement in your child's condition. It may be crucial that they complete the full course of treatment, as it might still provide some protective benefits.
Can the use of Gaimox CL DS Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Gaimox CL DS Syrup can potentially cause diarrhea due to its antibiotic properties. This medicine affects both harmful bacteria and beneficial bacteria in your child's gut, contributing to the diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea. If the diarrhea persists or you observe signs like dehydration (reduced urination with dark urine), consult a doctor before giving any additional medication.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral infections do not lead to bacterial complications, especially during a common cold. It's crucial to use antibiotics only after consulting your child's doctor if they need them.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus, though common during the common cold, does not always indicate a bacterial infection. The typical duration of symptoms is 7 to 10 days before they subside.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Call your doctor immediately if you notice signs of serious allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, rash), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These are rare but potentially severe side effects requiring expert intervention.
