Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract in children.
Oral Suspension
Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Take Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension as directed by your child's doctor.
Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole, are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Only give Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.
You must tell your healthcare professional if your child has a history of heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because there is a possible risk that Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension could exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
No, do not combine Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines. This is due to the interaction of an ingredient in Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups. It can lead to disulfiram reaction, causing nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
Overdosing on Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension is unlikely to be harmful. However, in case you believe your child has taken too much, contact a doctor immediately. Overdose can cause unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any of these symptoms.
If your child continues to experience no improvement despite the prescribed course of treatment with Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension, it is crucial to consult a healthcare professional. They may suggest alternative antibiotics with higher efficacy against the specific bacterial infection causing your child's illness. In some cases, intravenous administration (IV) of these stronger antibiotics might be necessary at the hospital.
It is important to inform a healthcare professional about any other medications your child is taking before starting Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension. Always consult with your healthcare provider for guidance on administering any medication.
Store Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry, dark place away from direct sunlight and heat. Ensure that all medications are kept out of your child's reach and sight to prevent accidental ingestion.
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in a child who recently received vaccination. However, waiting until your child recovers from the infection before administering a vaccine is advisable.
The presence of red-brown urine in your child can be attributed to the active ingredient metronidazole present in Floxcrev MS Oral Suspension. It is not a sign of infection or a disease but a side effect that generally subsides upon stopping treatment.
