Introduction
Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients: ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is used to treat bacterial infections in children, including infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Directions for Use
Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is important to follow the dosage instructions provided by the doctor and to complete the full course of treatment.
How it works
Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. The antibiotic ingredients, ofloxacin and metronidazole, interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA, killing the infection-causing bacteria and preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone, a gas-absorbing agent, binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Only give Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

Frequently asked questions
What important information should I share with my child's doctor before administering Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension?
Before giving your child Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension, inform their doctor if they suffer from any of the following: heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sunlight allergy), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or have genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is because the medication might exacerbate these conditions and lead to complications.
Can Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension be used alongside cough and cold medications?
No, do not administer Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension concurrently with cough and cold medicines. This is because one of the ingredients in Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension might interact with alcohol-containing medications like cough syrups, potentially triggering a disulfiram reaction (nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness).
What should I do if my child accidentally takes an overdose of Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension?
An accidental dosage exceeding the recommended amount of Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension is unlikely to cause harm. However, if you believe your child has taken a larger dose, contact a doctor immediately. Overdose may result in unwanted side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headaches, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeats. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these symptoms appear.
What should I do if my child's condition does not improve after taking Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension for the prescribed period?
If your child does not show improvement despite completing the prescribed course of Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension, consult a doctor. They may prescribe a stronger antibiotic that is more effective against the bacteria causing the infection. In some cases, this might require intravenous administration (IV).
Can I administer other medications alongside Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension at the same time?
Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension can interact with certain medications or substances. Always inform your child's doctor about all medications they are currently taking before starting Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension. Additionally, check with a doctor before giving any new medicine to your child.
How should Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension be stored?
Store Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry place away from direct sunlight or heat. Children may accidentally ingest the medication if it is not stored properly, so ensure their reach and sight are limited to prevent accidental consumption.
Can I give my child vaccinations while on treatment with Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension?
Antibiotics typically do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received vaccinations. However, it is generally advised to avoid vaccination until your child has recovered fully from their illness. Once they are feeling better, you can administer the vaccine.
My child is experiencing red-brown urine since starting Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension. Is this normal?
Flowat-MZS Oral Suspension contains metronidazole, which can cause a reddish-brown color in urine. This side effect is not dangerous but usually resolves when the medication is stopped after treatment.
