Introduction
Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. Directions for Use
Take Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension as directed by your doctor.
How it works
Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole, are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Quick Tips
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension on tongue) after taking Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Only give Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

Frequently asked questions
What should I tell the doctor before giving Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension to my child?
Inform your healthcare provider if your child has pre-existing heart conditions, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (sensitivity to sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. This is important because these conditions may be aggravated by Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension and potentially lead to complications.
Can Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension be given along with cough and cold medicines?
No, do not give Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension with cough and cold medicines. Combining these medications may lead to a disulfiram reaction due to an ingredient in Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension that interacts with alcohol-containing cough syrups. This can cause nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
What if I give an overdose of Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension by mistake?
An extra dose of Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension is unlikely to harm. However, if you believe your child has taken too much, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Overdose may lead to unintended side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and irregular heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if these symptoms appear.
What should I do if my child shows no improvement even after taking Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension for the prescribed duration?
If your child doesn't show significant improvement despite taking Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension as directed, it may indicate that the medication is ineffective against the underlying infection. In this case, consult your healthcare provider for a possible change in antibiotic prescription or to explore other treatment options.
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension?
It is crucial to inform your child’s doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension. Always check with your healthcare provider for guidance on administering any additional medication while using Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension.
How should Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension be stored?
Store Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension at room temperature in a dry, dark place away from direct heat or sunlight. Ensure that all medications are kept out of your child’s reach to prevent accidental consumption.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have just received a vaccine. However, it is recommended to hold vaccination until your child recovers from the illness. Once your child feels well, their doctor can advise on when to administer the appropriate vaccines.
My child has been passing red-brown urine ever since he started taking Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension? Is it normal?
The presence of red-brown urine in your child is a common side effect caused by the active ingredient metronidazole in Flocab-MZ Oral Suspension. It is not indicative of any harm and should fade once the medication course has been completed.
