How it works
Figoclav Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents, amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas, clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child has a bitter taste in the mouth after taking Figoclav Dry Syrup. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Figoclav Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Figoclav Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Figoclav Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Figoclav Dry Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty.

Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Figoclav Dry Syrup?
Figoclav Dry Syrup can interact with other medications. It's important to inform your child's doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Figoclav Dry Syrup. Consulting a medical professional is crucial for medication guidance and potential interactions.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Figoclav Dry Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children after vaccination. However, a delay in administering the vaccine until your child has recovered from the underlying illness is advisable. Once the child's symptoms subside, the vaccine can be administered as directed by a healthcare professional.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Figoclav Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
Periodically, your child's doctor may order kidney and liver function tests during extended therapy with Figoclav Dry Syrup to monitor their overall well-being.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Figoclav Dry Syrup to my child?
No, exceeding the recommended dose of this medicine can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, contact your doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Figoclav Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Absolutely not! Do not discontinue this medication without first completing the prescribed course of treatment. Even if you notice symptom improvement, there may be ongoing efficacy. Continuing the medicine is crucial for its potential benefits.
Can the use of Figoclav Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Figoclav Dry Syrup can lead to diarrhea as it's an antibiotic that eliminates harmful bacteria. This medication may also disrupt the balance of beneficial bacteria in your child's gut, potentially causing diarrhea. To address this, encourage them to drink plenty of fluids and consult a doctor if symptoms persist or indicate dehydration (decreased urine frequency with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine).
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral colds do not lead to secondary bacterial infections. Antibiotics should be prescribed only after consulting a doctor, as they are not necessary for treating viral infections.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green nasal mucus does not necessarily indicate the need for antibiotics. During a common cold, mucus often thickens and changes color (from clear to yellow/green). Symptoms typically last 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, pallor, vomiting). These are serious and should be addressed by a healthcare professional.
