Introduction

Ferilax is a Haematinic that contains Sodium feredetate, Vitamin B12, and Folic acid. It is used to treat iron deficiency anemia, anemia due to folic acid deficiency, anemia during pregnancy, and severe blood loss during menstruation. The increased iron intake allows the body to increase its production of haemoglobin, which is the oxygen-transporting substance found in red blood cells.

Side Effects

Stomach upsets Discolouration of teeth

Sodium feredetate breaks down in the gut and releases the iron, which is then absorbed by the body. This unionised form of iron is less likely to cause stomach upsets or discolour teeth than that of iron supplements that contain iron salts.
