Introduction

Give Fawntru MZS Syrup to your child orally, preferably at a fixed time, either before or after meals. In case your child develops a stomach upset, prefer giving it with meals. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of intake, repeat the same dose but do not double the dose if it is time for the next dose. Never change the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor since these depend upon the type and severity of the infection, your child's age, and body weight.

How it works

Fawntru MZS Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients. While two of its ingredients, namely ofloxacin and metronidazole are antibiotics, simethicone is a gas-absorbing agent that improves gastric tolerability of the combination. The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. On the other hand, Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem. By doing so, it aids in the removal of gases and provides relief in stomach pain and bloating.

Quick Tips

Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water. Your child may have an altered taste or furry tongue (coating of Fawntru MZS Syrup on tongue) after taking Fawntru MZS Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Fawntru MZS Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Fawntru MZS Syrup treats only bacterial infections. Discontinue Fawntru MZS Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing. Only give Fawntru MZS Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses.

Frequently asked questions

What should I inform the doctor about before giving Fawntru MZS Syrup to my child?

You must tell your doctor if your child has any pre-existing conditions such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders involving blood vessels. Inform them about any existing health conditions because there is a potential for Fawntru MZS Syrup to worsen these and lead to complications.

Can Fawntru MZS Syrup be taken along with cough and cold medicines?

No, do not give Fawntru MZS Syrup with cough and cold medications. This is because one of the ingredients in Fawntru MZS Syrup can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups, potentially leading to disulfiram reaction (a type of adverse effect) which causes nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness.

What should I do if my child accidentally ingests an excess dose of Fawntru MZS Syrup?

An extra dose of Fawntru MZS Syrup is unlikely to be harmful. However, if you think your child may have taken too much medication, immediately contact a doctor. Overdose can lead to side effects such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid heartbeat. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these symptoms appear.

What should I do if my child doesn't show improvement after taking Fawntru MZS Syrup for the prescribed time?

It may indicate that Fawntru MZS Syrup is ineffective against the infection. In this case, consult your child’s doctor for possible alternative antibiotics with better efficacy. Your doctor may also recommend intravenous antibiotic administration if necessary.

Can other medicines be administered at the same time as Fawntru MZS Syrup?

Fawntru MZS Syrup can sometimes interact with other medications or substances. Be sure to inform your doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting this medication. It's crucial to check with your child’s doctor before administering any new medicine.

How should Fawntru MZS Syrup be stored?

Store Fawntru MZS Syrup at room temperature, in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep the medication out of reach of children to prevent accidental ingestion.

Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Fawntru MZS Syrup?

Antibiotics usually don't interfere with the ingredients in vaccines or cause a negative reaction in a child who has recently been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should not be vaccinated until they are fully recovered from their illness. Consult your doctor to determine when you can administer the vaccine once your child is well.

My child has been passing red-brown urine since starting Fawntru MZS Syrup. Is this normal?
