Key Information

Short Description

Exler M Oral Suspension is a medication used to treat symptoms of allergy, asthma, and skin allergies in children.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Exler M Oral Suspension is commonly prescribed in children to treat symptoms of allergy such as runny nose, sneezing, itching, swelling, congestion, and watery eyes. It may also help in the treatment of asthma and skin allergies.

Directions for Use

Exler M Oral Suspension is given orally to children. The dosage and duration of treatment should be as directed by the doctor.

How it works

Exler M Oral Suspension contains Levocetirizine and Montelukast. Together these two relieve sneezing and runny nose caused due to allergies. Levocetirizine is an antiallergic that blocks a chemical messenger (histamine) responsible for runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Montelukast is a leukotriene antagonist. It works by blocking another chemical messenger (leukotriene). This reduces inflammation (swelling) in the airways and nose and improves symptoms.

Quick Tips

Never combine Exler M Oral Suspension with other cold and flu medicines as that may have side effects. Exler M Oral Suspension helps prevent asthma attacks. Never use it to stop an attack that has already started as it will not help. If you are giving Exler M Oral Suspension to your child for asthma or allergy you need not give another dose to prevent exercise-induced breathing problems. In case of any confusion consult your child’s doctor as soon as possible. Make sure that you always have enough medicine. Practice self-care tips: Abstain your child from coming in contact with allergens, Encourage your child to wear a face mask and avoid dusty places, Give plenty of fluids as it helps in thinning and loosening the mucus in the lungs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I give cough and allergy medication together? My child experiences both symptoms.

No, do not mix cough and allergy medications because they usually both contain similar ingredients. This may result in double dosing of the active ingredients, thereby causing serious side effects.

Can I decrease the dose of Exler M Oral Suspension on my own if my child feels better?

No, adhere to the prescribed dose as indicated by your child’s doctor. Do not increase or decrease the dose by yourself as it can impact your child's health. While increasing the dose may cause unwanted effects like sedation and depression, decreasing the dose or stopping it abruptly can result in rebound reversal of all symptoms.

How should Exler M Oral Suspension be stored?

Exler M Oral Suspension should be kept at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. It is also important to keep all medications out of the reach and sight of children to avoid accidental intake.

Can Exler M Oral Suspension make my child sleepy?

Exler M Oral Suspension causes mild drowsiness, which may make your child sleepy. However, it should never be used to induce sleep. Forced sleep could mask any underlying sleep disorder like insomnia.

My child is an athlete about to participate in a sports event in two days; can I start Exler M Oral Suspension?

No, do not start Exler M Oral Suspension without speaking to your child's doctor. Moreover, Exler M Oral Suspension may hinder their performance due to mild sedation, dizziness, and sleepiness. Consulting with the doctor first is recommended.

Can I stop taking the medicine on my own?

No, all symptoms might reappear suddenly after stopping Exler M Oral Suspension. It’s crucial to stop this medicine gradually under the guidance of your child’s doctor.

My child is suffering from a mood disorder; can I give Exler M Oral Suspension?

Some studies show that Exler M Oral Suspension may cause mood disorders, hallucinations, depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, shakiness, and trouble controlling body movements. Consult your child's doctor before administering any medication to your child.

Can I use Exler M Oral Suspension for treating acute asthma attacks in my child?
