Estom 40mg Capsule is a medicine that reduces the amount of acid produced in your stomach, used in the treatment of acid-related diseases of the stomach and intestine such as heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Estom 40mg Capsule is best taken one hour before a meal, preferably in the morning. The dose will depend on your underlying condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep on taking it as prescribed even if your symptoms disappear quickly. You can increase the efficiency of the treatment by eating smaller meals more often and avoiding caffeinated drinks (like tea and coffee) and spicy or fatty foods.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Estom 40mg Capsule is to be taken empty stomach.
Estom 40mg Capsule is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach which provide relief from symptoms of heartburn, acid reflux, peptic ulcer disease, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Avoid excessive intake of carbonated beverages/soft drinks citrus juices fried food caffeinated beverages like tea and coffee. Avoid alcohol and smoking. Avoid eating late at night or before bedtime. Inform your doctor if you get watery diarrhea, fever or stomach pain that does not go away. Inform your doctor if you do not feel better after taking it for 14 days as you may be suffering from some other problem that needs attention. Long-term use of Estom 40mg Capsule can cause weak bones and a deficiency of minerals such as magnesium. Take adequate dietary intake of calcium and magnesium or their supplements as prescribed by your doctor. Do not stop taking medication without talking to your doctor. Consult your doctor right away if you develop decreased urination, edema (swelling due to fluid retention), lower back pain, nausea, fatigue, and rash or fever. These could be signs of a kidney problem.
This medication can be safely combined with domperidone, as no clinically significant adverse effects have been reported. A fixed-dose combination of these two medicines is also commercially available.
Do not use this medication if you are currently using a medicine containing atazanavir and nelfinavir (used for HIV infection). Inform your doctor of any liver problems, persistent diarrhea or vomiting, black stools (blood-stained stools), unusual weight loss, difficulty swallowing, stomach pain, or indigestion. Be sure to disclose all other medications you are taking as they may interact with Estom 40mg Capsule. It should not be given to children under one year old or those weighing less than 10 kgs. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before using this medication to avoid potential harm to the baby.
Yes, some individuals may experience diarrhea as a side effect. This typically is not severe but persistent watery stools accompanied by stomach cramps and fever warrant medical attention immediately.
Continue taking this medication as directed by your healthcare provider, adjusting the duration based on individual condition. Do not abruptly discontinue use without consulting your doctor.
It may lead to decreased calcium absorption, resulting in calcium deficiency and increased risk of bone fractures (especially hip, wrist, or spine). It's important to inform your healthcare provider if you have a history of osteoporosis or are currently taking corticosteroids, as they can increase the risk. Consult your doctor about preventive measures such as calcium or vitamin D supplements.
Prolonged use for more than three months may result in long-term side effects. The most significant concerns are low blood magnesium levels, which can lead to fatigue, confusion, dizziness, tremors, or lightheadedness. Additionally, muscle twitches or irregular heartbeat may occur if the medication is used long-term (over a year).
It may cause vitamin B12 and vitamin C deficiency. Oral administration of vitamin B12 necessitates an acidic stomach environment for its absorption, which this medication suppresses. Taking vitamin B12 supplements is recommended. The significance of vitamin C reduction through Estom 40mg Capsule use is not yet established. Vitamin C supplementation is not currently recommended.
Patients with heart disease can take this medication if prescribed by a healthcare provider. However, it may interact with certain medications (e.g., clopidogrel or digoxin), which could be used by someone with an underlying cardiac condition. Close monitoring by a doctor is needed when combining these medications.
