Tablet ER
Eslaten-M Tablet ER is a combination of two medicines that control high blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This helps prevent serious complications of diabetes such as kidney damage and blindness and may also reduce your chances of having a heart attack or stroke.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Swallow it as a whole. Do not chew, crush or break it. Eslaten-M Tablet ER is to be taken with food.
Eslaten-M Tablet ER is a combination of two antidiabetic medicines:
Inform your doctor about your diabetes treatment if you are due to have surgery under a general anesthetic. Tell your doctor immediately if you experience any deep or rapid breathing, persistent nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain as Eslaten-M Tablet ER may cause a rare but serious condition called lactic acidosis which is an excess of lactic acid in the blood.
Yes, Eslaten-M Tablet ER is generally considered safe when taken as prescribed by your doctor. However, you may experience common side effects like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach upset, headache, nasal congestion, sore throat, respiratory tract infection and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). It's important to consult with your healthcare provider if you have any persistent problems while taking this medication.
While Eslaten-M Tablet ER itself doesn't usually cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar level), it can occur when there is insufficient calorie intake. Symptoms of low blood sugar include nausea, headache, irritability, hunger, sweating, dizziness, fast heart rate and feeling anxious or shaky. It’s more likely to happen if you miss meals, drink alcohol, exercise intensely, or take other medications with your insulin or sulfonylurea drugs. Regular monitoring of your blood sugar level is essential. Keep glucose tablets, honey or fruit juice handy in case of emergency.
Yes, some patients may experience nausea and vomiting while taking Eslaten-M Tablet ER. In case of vomiting, sip water or other fluids gradually to avoid further dehydration. If vomiting persists, contact your doctor, especially if you notice signs of dehydration such as dark urine, infrequent urination, or lethargy. Do not take any other medications without consulting a doctor.
You should avoid using Eslaten-M Tablet ER if you have an allergy to any components of the medication or excipients. It is also generally not recommended for patients with severe kidney impairment, liver disease, heart failure, lactic acidosis, or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Yes, Eslaten-M Tablet ER can lead to lactic acidosis (MALA), a rare side effect associated with metformin. This occurs when levels of lactic acid in the blood increase, which can be harmful. It is more likely in patients with pre-existing kidney disease, older adults or those who consume excessive alcohol. Symptoms include muscle pain, dizziness, fatigue, feeling cold in hands and feet, difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or a slow heart rate. If you experience these symptoms, stop taking Eslaten-M Tablet ER and consult your doctor immediately.
Long-term use of Eslaten-M Tablet ER may increase the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency. This is because it can interfere with absorption of vitamin B12 in the stomach. If you experience symptoms like tingling or numbness in your hands and feet, weakness, urinary problems, changes in mental status, or difficulty maintaining balance (ataxia), contact your doctor for possible treatment.
