Emtreo Injection is used in the treatment of blood cancer in combination with another cancer medicine called fludarabine in adults and children as young as one month of age.
Injection
Emtreo Injection is given as an injection into veins by the healthcare provider. This will depend on what you are being treated for and may change from time to time. It may take several weeks or months for you to see or feel the benefits. The dose and duration of treatment will be decided by your doctor.
Your doctor or nurse will give you this medicine. Kindly do not self-administer.
Emtreo Injection is an alkylating agent. It works by forming cross-links between DNA strands preventing cell replication and leading to the death of the cell.
Inform your doctor if you develop shortness of breath during the treatment with Emtreo Injection. Use contraceptives and do not conceive a child (get pregnant) while taking this medicine. Barrier methods of contraception such as condoms should be used during therapy and six months after treatment. You may be at risk of infection so try to avoid crowds or people with colds and immediately report fever or any other signs of infection to your health care provider. Avoid activities that may cause injury and bleeding during your treatment. Do not receive any kind of immunization or vaccination (especially live vaccines) without your doctor’s approval while taking Emtreo Injection. To reduce nausea, take anti-nausea medications as prescribed by your doctor and eat small frequent meals. Drink more fluids than usual for up to 24 hours after your treatment unless instructed otherwise. Swelling of the gums may occur as a side effect. Frequent mouth rinses, good oral hygiene, and the application of ice may give relief.
