Frequently asked questions
How long does Drofinax 10gm Syrup take to work?
It typically takes 2-3 days to notice the benefits of treatment. If you experience ongoing constipation after this period, please consult your doctor.
What is Drofinax 10gm Syrup used for?
Drofinax 10gm Syrup is prescribed for treating constipation, characterized by infrequent bowel movements and hard, dry stools. It also addresses hepatic encephalopathy, a serious liver condition leading to confusion, tremors, and decreased level of consciousness.
Is Drofinax 10gm Syrup a laxative?
Yes, Drofinax 10gm Syrup is a laxative that softens stools by drawing water into the large intestine. It also helps reduce ammonia levels in patients with liver disease.
What are the side effects of taking Drofinax 10gm Syrup?
Common side effects include diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Diarrhea and abdominal pain can occur at higher doses, so a dose adjustment may be required. Flatulence might appear during the initial days of treatment and subside over time. This medicine can also cause electrolyte imbalance. However, this is an uncommon occurrence.
Is it okay to take Drofinax 10gm Syrup daily?
The dosage for Drofinax 10gm Syrup should be taken according to your doctor's recommendation. You may also continue taking it as long as the constipation persists, which can last up to a week. For hepatic encephalopathy, treatment duration might extend even for months.
Who should not be given Drofinax 10gm Syrup?
Drofinax 10gm Syrup is contraindicated in patients with known allergies to it or lactose intolerance (cannot process lactose). Additionally, avoid its use in individuals with galactosemia, a rare condition where the body cannot process galactose.
Can I take other laxatives along with Drofinax 10gm Syrup?
Usually, one laxative is sufficient for constipation relief. However, your doctor may recommend adding another laxative in some cases if needed. Using two laxatives simultaneously increases the risk of side effects.
What if I take more than the recommended dose of Drofinax 10gm Syrup?
Exceeding the recommended dosage of Drofinax 10gm Syrup may lead to abdominal pain, electrolyte imbalance, and diarrhea, which might persist for a few days.
How should Drofinax 10gm Syrup be taken?
Take the prescribed dose in the provided measuring cup or spoon. You can consume it with water or fruit juice if you find the syrup too sweet. Ensure proper hydration by drinking plenty of fluids to enhance effectiveness.
