Syrup
Dia-MZ Syrup is a combination of three active ingredients, ofloxacin, metronidazole, and simethicone. It is given to children for the treatment of bacterial infections of the teeth, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, and genital tract. This medicine is also given as an empirical antibiotic for infected diarrhea mixed with blood and serious infections like peritonitis.
Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Dia-MZ Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine.
Diarrhea is a common side effect of this medicine. If it occurs, make sure your child drinks plenty of water.
The antibiotic ingredients interfere with the genetic material of bacteria by impairing its DNA. This kills the infection-causing bacteria, preventing its growth and stopping the infection. Simethicone binds with the gas bubbles produced as a result of the other two ingredients or as a result of some other problem, aiding in the removal of gases and providing relief in stomach pain and bloating.
Make sure your child drinks plenty of water if diarrhea occurs Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help if your child has an altered taste or furry tongue Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Dia-MZ Syrup Never use this medicine for the common cold and flu as they are caused by viruses and Dia-MZ Syrup treats only bacterial infections Discontinue Dia-MZ Syrup and inform the doctor immediately if your child develops a rash, itchy skin, swelling of face and mouth, or has difficulty in breathing
Before giving Dia-MZ Syrup to your child, it is essential to inform their doctor if they have any pre-existing medical conditions such as heart disease, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy, neuromuscular disorders, rheumatoid arthritis, or genetic disorders affecting blood vessels. This is because Dia-MZ Syrup may worsen these conditions and lead to complications.
No, it's not recommended to give Dia-MZ Syrup with cough and cold medicines. One of the ingredients in Dia-MZ Syrup can interact with alcohol-containing medicines like cough syrups, causing a disulfiram reaction that may result in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, flushing, dizziness, etc.
In the unlikely event of an overdose, it's essential to seek medical attention immediately. Overdose may cause symptoms such as seizures, tremors, severe headache, sudden weakness, blood cell abnormalities, and rapid and irregular heartbeat.
If your child shows no improvement despite completing the prescribed treatment with Dia-MZ Syrup, it may indicate that the medicine was ineffective against the infection-causing bacteria. In such cases, consult their doctor who may prescribe alternative antibiotics or treatments.
It's crucial to inform your child's doctor about any other medicines they are taking before starting Dia-MZ Syrup. Additionally, check with their doctor before giving any new medication to avoid potential interactions.
Store Dia-MZ Syrup at room temperature in a dry place, away from direct heat and light. Keep the medicine out of reach and sight of children to prevent accidental consumption.
Generally, antibiotics like Dia-MZ Syrup do not interfere with vaccines or cause adverse reactions in children who have just been vaccinated. However, it's recommended to wait until the illness has resolved before getting vaccinated.
The active ingredient metronidazole in Dia-MZ Syrup can cause red-brown urine, which is a common side effect. This symptom typically subsides once the treatment is completed and the medicine is stopped.
