Dexin Syrup is an antibiotic medicine used to treat bacterial infections in children.
Syrup
Dexin Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that is given to children for the treatment of a wide range of bacterial infections associated with the ear, nose, throat, tonsils, lungs, and skin. It may also be prescribed as a second line of treatment for urinary tract infections.
Complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply or become resistant.
Dexin Syrup works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is essential for the survival of the bacteria.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Contact your doctor if your child has diarrhea that goes on for more than 4 days or if it is severe and watery or contains blood. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. This medicine is not to be taken in such cases. Only give Dexin Syrup to your child for their current infection. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child’s doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine. You may see white patches inside your child’s mouth and throat after a prolonged intake of Dexin Syrup. This could be due to a fungal infection. So if your child develops any such effect, contact your doctor right away.
If you think your child has taken more than the recommended dose of Dexin Syrup by mistake, please contact a doctor immediately. While an extra dose is unlikely to cause harm, it's essential to err on the side of caution and seek medical advice in such cases.
Yes, Dexin Syrup may lead to some rare but serious side effects. These include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergic reactions, severe diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. If your child experiences any of these symptoms, consult with their doctor right away.
Dexin Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. Before starting treatment, inform your child's doctor about any other medications they are taking. Additionally, consult with the doctor before administering any other medicine to your child.
Generally, antibiotics like Dexin Syrup do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently been vaccinated. However, it's recommended that children take antibiotics before receiving a vaccine. As soon as your child feels better and recovers from the illness, the vaccine can be administered.
As an antibiotic, Dexin Syrup may disrupt the balance of good bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract, potentially leading to other infections. If your child experiences diarrhea while on treatment with Dexin Syrup, do not abruptly stop the medication course. Instead, consult with their doctor for guidance on the next steps.
