Dex CP Expectorant is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. It is better to take it with food to avoid stomach upset. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your doctor know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect or be affected by this medicine.
Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Dex CP Expectorant may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time.
Most common side effects are nausea, upset stomach, high blood pressure, insomnia, and palpitations. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Contact your doctor straight away if you are at all concerned about any of these side effects.
Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can make sleepiness worse.

Dex CP Expectorant is a combination of four medicines: Menthol, Chlorpheniramine Maleate, Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide, and Phenylpropanolamine. Menthol produces a sensation of coolness and relieves minor throat irritation. Chlorpheniramine Maleate is an antiallergic which relieves allergy symptoms like runny nose, watery eyes, and sneezing. Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a cough suppressant that relieves cough by reducing the activity of cough centre in the brain. Phenylpropanolamine is a sympathomimetic agonist. It narrows blood vessels in the nose to relieve congestion.
Dex CP Expectorant is prescribed to get relief from a dry cough. Take exactly as directed by your doctor or on the label. Do not increase the dosage or take for longer than is recommended. Inform your doctor if you have a history of stomach ulcers or asthma. Inform your doctor if you are taking any other medications, e.g. anti-depressants. Consult your doctor if you do not see any improvement and have a cough for more than 7 days.
