Introduction

Derivent Pead Syrup is taken with or without food in a dose and duration as advised by the doctor. The dose you are given will depend on your condition and how you respond to the medicine. You should keep taking this medicine for as long as your doctor recommends. If you stop treatment too early your symptoms may come back and your condition may worsen. Let your healthcare team know about all other medications you are taking as some may affect or be affected by this medicine.

Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor. Check the label for directions before use. Measure it with a measuring cup and take it by mouth. Shake well before use. Derivent Pead Syrup may be taken with or without food but it is better to take it at a fixed time. Avoid Derivent Pead Syrup with caffeine and chocolate as well as food containing caffeine and chocolate such as tea leaves, cocoa beans.

Alcohol Warning

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking this medicine as it can worsen your dizziness.

Before taking it, you should tell your doctor if you have any kidney or liver diseases so that your doctor can prescribe a suitable dose for you.

Derivent Pead Syrup is a combination of two bronchodilators (Etofylline and Salbutamol) and an expectorant (Guaifenesin). The bronchodilators work by relaxing the muscles in the airways and widen the airways. Guaifenesin works by decreasing the stickiness of mucus (phlegm) and helps in its removal from the airways.

You have been prescribed Derivent Pead Syrup for the treatment of asthma. It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Always keep a fast-acting (rescue) inhaler with you. If at any time your breathing gets worse, please contact your doctor or nurse for advice straightaway. Inform your doctor if you have heart problems, high blood pressure or diabetes. If you are due to have an operation or any dental treatment, tell the person carrying out the treatment which medicines you are taking, as some anesthetics can interfere with Derivent Pead Syrup. Do not smoke. Smoking causes irritation and damage to the lungs and will make your condition worse. Try to keep your regular appointments with your doctor. This is so your doctor can review your condition on a regular basis.
