Key Information

Short Description

Conati 200 Capsule is an antifungal medication used to treat infections of the mouth, throat, vagina, and other parts of the body including fingernails and toenails.

Dosage Form

Capsule

Introduction

Conati 200 Capsule belongs to a group of medicines called antifungals. It works by stopping the growth of fungi and is used to treat infections of the mouth, throat, vagina, and other parts of the body including fingernails and toenails. It kills fungi by destroying the fungal cell membrane. Conati 200 Capsule should be taken in the dose and duration as prescribed by your doctor. It should be swallowed whole and can be taken with food. To get the most benefit, take this medicine at evenly spaced times and continue using it until your prescription is finished, even if your symptoms disappear after a few days. If you stop the treatment too early, the infection may return and if you miss doses you can increase your risk of infections that are resistant to further treatment. Tell your doctor if the infection does not get better or if it gets worse. The most common side effects of this medicine include nausea, dizziness, headache, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, constipation, and dyspepsia. You could ask your doctor about ways of preventing or reducing these effects. Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction like severe skin rash, tingling, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Do not take it if you are pregnant or could become pregnant unless your doctor has told you to. Talk to your doctor before taking this medicine if you have a history of heart failure, a weak immune system (including HIV/AIDS), kidney problems, or liver problems such as yellow skin (jaundice). This medicine may not be suitable for you. If your course of treatment is for more than a month, your doctor may want to check your liver by testing your blood.

Frequently asked questions

What is Conati 200 Capsule used for?

Conati 200 Capsule is used to treat various fungal infections caused by Trichophyton spp., Microsporum spp., and Epidermophyton floccosum. These include ringworm, foot infections, groin and buttocks infections, persistent nail and toenail fungal infections, Candida (yeast) infections of the vagina or mouth/throat in patients with lower disease resistance. It is also used to treat cryptococcal infection and infections caused by Histoplasma, Aspergillus, and Blastomyces.

How long do I need to take Conati 200 Capsule?

The duration of treatment depends on the type and site of infection, along with individual response. For athlete's foot (fungal infection), treatment might be for 30 days. However, for Candida vaginal infections, the dosage may vary between 1 day to 3 days as advised by your doctor.

I am taking Conati 200 Capsule for nail infection but there doesn't seem to be any improvement. Can I stop taking it?

No, you should not stop taking Conati 200 Capsule without completing the entire course as this could lead to incomplete fungal elimination and potential recurrence. It may take up to 6-9 months for nail lesions to disappear as new nails grow over time. Do not worry if you do not see improvement during treatment.

Why has my doctor asked me to get blood tests done?

Your doctor may be checking your liver function while taking Conati 200 Capsule. This medication can cause serious liver damage, so it's essential to report any symptoms like loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, dark urine, or abdominal pain to your doctor immediately.

Can I take antacids and Conati 200 Capsule together?

Conati 200 Capsule's effectiveness is dependent on the presence of sufficient acid in the stomach. Medications used for stomach ulcers, heartburn or indigestion neutralize stomach acid. Therefore, take antacids or similar medications 2 hours after taking Conati 200 Capsule. If you are using antacids to manage acidity, it’s best to consume them with a drink of cola.

What is drug resistance? Can I develop resistance to Conati 200 Capsule?

Drug resistance occurs when fungi in the body alter themselves and become immune to medicines. This can happen with some Candida species (Krusei, Glabrata, and Tropicalis). If this happens, Conati 200 Capsule should not be used for infections caused by these specific Candida species. It's crucial to complete the prescribed course of treatment to avoid developing drug resistance.

My doctor prescribed Conati 200 Capsule but not to my friend who had a similar fungal infection because she was on dofetilide. Why is it so?

The prescription for Conati 200 Capsule might not have been given to your friend due to the interaction between dofetilide and this medication. This medication can interfere with dofetilide's effectiveness, potentially causing heart-related side effects.

I am on alprazolam for a long time; can I start taking Conati 200 Capsule now?

Yes, you can take both alprazolam and Conati 200 Capsule together. However, keep an eye out for possible side effects of alprazolam like lightheadedness or drowsiness. If any side effects occur after taking Conati 200 Capsule, speak to your doctor who might adjust the dosage of alprazolam.
