It works by increasing the retention of water in the intestine which induces bowel movement. This way it clears the tract to carry out the colonoscopy easily.

Sodium sulphate promotes the retention of water in the bowel and increases the water content of stool resulting in increased gastrointestinal motility and smoother evacuation of colonic contents. Potassium sulphate works by drawing large amounts of water into the colon. Magnesium sulphate exerts an osmotic effect and causes water to be retained in the intestinal lumen.

Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to magnesium sulfate, potassium sulfate, or sodium sulfate.
