Introduction
Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup?
Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup may interact with other medications or substances. Before starting this medication, inform your child's doctor about any other drugs they are currently taking. It is also crucial to consult your child’s doctor before administering any additional medicine.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup?
Most antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received a vaccination. However, it's essential to delay giving the vaccine until your child has recovered from their illness unless they are experiencing severe symptoms and require immediate medical attention.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup on a long-term basis?
When prolonged therapy is required, the doctor may periodically monitor kidney and liver function tests to ensure your child’s overall health.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher dose than the prescribed amount may increase the risk of unwanted side effects. If your child is experiencing worsening symptoms, it's best to consult their doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not discontinue this medication unless the full course of treatment has been completed. Symptoms may appear to improve before the infection is completely eradicated, so continuing the prescribed course is essential for optimal effect.
Can the use of Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?
Yes, Clavmentin Duo Dry Syrup can lead to diarrhea. This medication targets harmful bacteria and also affects beneficial bacteria in your child's stomach, which could potentially cause diarrhea. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids if they experience diarrhea. If symptoms persist or you notice signs of dehydration (such as infrequent urination with dark-colored urine), consult your doctor before administering any other medications.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral infections do not lead to bacterial infections. It is recommended to utilize antibiotics only after consulting with your child's doctor if there are any signs of a possible bacterial infection, and for appropriate guidance.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose is not necessarily indicative of bacterial infection; it's common during a cold and can change color over time. Most symptoms subside within 7-10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
Call your child’s doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or signs of liver damage such as weakness, paleness, and vomiting. While rare, these complications require expert medical care.
