Introduction
Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Do not give Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension to your child. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension?
Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension may interact with other medications. Before starting treatment, it's crucial to inform your child's healthcare professional about any other medications they are taking. Additionally, consult a medical expert before administering any medication to your child.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause negative reactions in children who have recently been immunized. However, it is advised to hold off on giving any medication to a child after the illness until they have recovered from it. Once your child feels better, the doctor can recommend a suitable vaccination schedule.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension long-term?
Regularly monitoring kidney and liver function in children on prolonged treatment with Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension is considered. These assessments will help track their condition.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension to my child?
Giving a dose that exceeds the prescribed amount for Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension can increase the likelihood of experiencing side effects. If your child's symptoms worsen, it is important to contact your child's doctor for re-evaluation.
Can I stop giving Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
It's crucial not to discontinue treatment with Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension before the full course is completed, even if your child feels better. Symptoms might improve before the infection fully clears. Therefore, ensure continued use of the medication for the prescribed duration as it may still offer beneficial effects.
Can Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension cause diarrhea in children?
Yes, Clavitas Duo Oral Suspension can potentially cause diarrhea. This is due to its antibiotic properties, which target harmful bacteria. Additionally, the medicine may impact beneficial bacteria in your child's digestive system, contributing to diarrhea. In cases of diarrhea, encourage your child to consume fluids. If the symptoms persist or you notice signs of dehydration, such as decreased urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, consult a medical professional before administering any additional medications.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Typically, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Administering antibiotics in viral cases can even increase your child's risk of side effects and should only be done under the advice of a healthcare professional.
Is there any sign which shows my child needs immediate medical attention?
Seek immediate medical attention if your child experiences serious allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). While rare, these side effects are crucial to address by a healthcare professional.
