Key Information

Short Description

Clavfit Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Dry Syrup

Introduction

Clavfit Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.

Directions for Use

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.

How it works

Clavfit Dry Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Clavfit Dry Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Clavfit Dry Syrup to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Clavfit Dry Syrup to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines.

Frequently asked questions

What other medications can be taken with Clavfit Dry Syrup?

Clavfit Dry Syrup may interact with other medications. Inform your child's doctor about any other medications your child is taking before starting Clavfit Dry Syrup. Additionally, consult the doctor before administering any medication to your child.

Can vaccines be given while on treatment with Clavfit Dry Syrup?

Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have just been vaccinated. However, children taking antibiotics should avoid vaccination until they recover from their illness. As soon as your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.

What laboratory tests may be required for long-term Clavfit Dry Syrup treatment?

During prolonged therapy, the doctor may perform periodic kidney and liver function tests to monitor your child's condition.

Is it safe to give a higher dose of Clavfit Dry Syrup than recommended?

No, taking more than the recommended dose of this medication can increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, consult the doctor for re-evaluation.

Can treatment with Clavfit Dry Syrup be stopped when symptoms subside?

No, do not stop giving this medicine unless the full course of treatment is complete, even if you feel better. The symptoms may improve before the infection is fully cured. Continue giving the medication for the prescribed duration as it may still be beneficial.

Can Clavfit Dry Syrup cause diarrhea?

Yes, Clavfit Dry Syrup may cause diarrhea due to its antibiotic properties and potential disruption of helpful bacteria in your child's stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water or other fluids if they experience diarrhea. Consult the doctor if it persists and you notice signs of dehydration.

Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infections?

Mostly, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. Using antibiotics for viral infections can increase the risk of side effects. Use antibiotics only after consulting with your child's doctor.

What does yellow or green mucus in my child's nose indicate?

Yellow or green mucus in the nose during a common cold is normal, and symptoms often last 7-10 days. Antibiotics are not necessary for this condition.

When should I seek immediate medical attention for my child?

Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience serious allergic reactions (breathing problems, skin rashes), gastrointestinal infections (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, paleness, vomiting). These side effects are rare but require expert attention.
