Candiskin 1% Cream is an antifungal medicine designed to treat various fungal skin infections, including ringworm, athlete's foot, fungal nappy rash, and fungal sweat rash. It also helps relieve irritation of the vulva (external thrush) and irritation occurring at the end of the penis associated with thrush.
The cream is effective against Trichophyton species that cause ringworm infection, athlete's foot, and jock itch. It also targets yeast known as Candida, which commonly causes vaginal thrush (infection caused by an overgrowth of yeast called Candida albicans).
Within a few days of treatment, you may notice improvement in symptoms such as itching or soreness. However, signs like redness and scaling may take longer to disappear. Do not stop applying this medicine before the duration advised by your doctor, even if you feel better.
To use the cream safely, wash your hands thoroughly before and after application. If using it for an infected foot, ensure your feet are clean and dry, especially between the toes. Apply the cream thinly and evenly, rubbing it gently onto affected areas two or three times daily.
The treatment duration depends on the type of infection. For tinea infections, treatment usually lasts for one month. For candida infections, it is recommended to continue treatment for at least 15 days. Do not discontinue treatment prematurely as this may lead to a recurrence of the infection.
Candiskin 1% Cream is safe for children when used as directed by their doctor. It should only be administered in the prescribed dose for the recommended duration. Minor side effects may occur, but they are usually not bothersome. However, if your child experiences a severe burning sensation, redness, and itching, you should stop using the cream and consult with your doctor.
To aid in a quicker recovery, keep the affected skin areas clean and dry. Avoid excessive rubbing as this may damage the skin surface and allow the infection to spread further. Also, do not share towels, bath mats, or other personal items with others to prevent the transmission of the infection.
Candiskin 1% Cream may reduce the effectiveness of rubber contraceptives like diaphragms and condoms. If using the cream on the vulva or penis, you should use alternative methods of contraception for at least five days after applying the cream.
