Calano-O Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that treats bacterial infections in children and adolescents.
Oral Suspension
Calano-O Dry Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that treats bacterial infections that may affect your child's eyes, ears, nose, throat, lungs, skin, bone and joints, gastrointestinal tract, and urinary tract. It can also be used in treating typhoid fever in children and adolescents.
Give this medicine with food to avoid an upset stomach. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect.
Calano-O Dry Syrup contains two antibiotics. Cefixime works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) while ofloxacin directly interacts with the genetic material of bacteria. As a consequence, the infection-causing bacteria stop growing further and the spread of the infection is successfully arrested.
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Do not give any calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin, or antacid within 2 hours of taking Calano-O Dry Syrup as these can affect the absorption of the medicine. Conditions like common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Never use this medicine for such conditions. Only give Calano-O Dry Syrup to your child for their current infection. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Stop this medicine and immediately report to your child's doctor in case your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulties while taking this medicine.
Giving extra doses of Calano-O Dry Syrup is unlikely to cause harm, but it's important to be careful. Excessive doses may lead to side effects and worsen your child's condition. If you believe your child has received too much medication, consult a doctor immediately.
Some serious side effects include persistent vomiting, kidney damage, allergic reactions, diarrhea, and severe gastrointestinal infections. In case of such complications, seek immediate medical attention.
Calano-O Dry Syrup can interact with other medications or substances. It's essential to tell your doctor about all the medicines your child is taking before starting this medication. Additionally, consult your child’s doctor for guidance on giving any medicine.
Antibiotics usually do not interfere with the components of vaccines or cause a negative reaction in children who have recently received them. However, it is best to wait until your child recovers from their illness before getting vaccinated. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be given.
Children often experience digestive upset while taking antibiotics. Antibiotics can disrupt the balance of good and bad bacteria in the gut, increasing the risk of other infections. If your child experiences diarrhea while on Calano-O Dry Syrup, do not stop the medication without consulting your doctor. They might advise adjusting the dosage.
Yes, bacteria can become resistant to Calano-O Dry Syrup due to improper use or misuse, such as irregular dosing, repeated usage without necessity, and taking it for longer than necessary. This makes the bacteria harder to kill, potentially leading to reinfection.
Inform your child's doctor if they have any of the following conditions: heart disease, genetic disorders involving blood vessels, seizures, psychiatric disorders, diabetes, photoallergy (allergy from sunlight), neuromuscular disorders, or rheumatoid arthritis. These conditions may worsen with Calano-O Dry Syrup and could lead to complications.
