Introduction
Brimox CV DS Syrup is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.
Directions for Use
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.
How it works
Brimox CV DS Syrup is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.
Quick Tips
Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Brimox CV DS Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Brimox CV DS Syrup until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Frequently asked questions
Can other medicines be given at the same time as Brimox CV DS Syrup?
Brimox CV DS Syrup may interact with other medications. It's important to inform your child's healthcare provider about all medications they are currently taking before starting this medication. Additionally, it is crucial to consult with a healthcare professional for guidance on administering any medicine to your child after consulting their doctor.
Can I get my child vaccinated while on treatment with Brimox CV DS Syrup?
Generally, antibiotics do not interfere with vaccine components or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received a vaccination. However, it's recommended to hold off on vaccinations until the child has recovered from any illness caused by the antibiotic. Once the child feels better, the doctor can schedule the vaccination after consultation.
Which lab tests may my child undergo while taking Brimox CV DS Syrup on a long-term basis?
During prolonged treatment, your child's doctor may periodically monitor kidney and liver function to assess their condition. However, regular monitoring will only be recommended after discussing the specific case with the doctor.
Can I give a higher than the recommended dose of Brimox CV DS Syrup to my child?
Giving a higher dose of this medicine may increase the risk of side effects. If your child experiences worsening symptoms, it is important to consult their doctor before re-evaluating dosage.
Can I stop giving Brimox CV DS Syrup to my child when the symptoms are relieved?
Do not abruptly discontinue this medication unless the entire course of treatment is complete. Even if symptoms seem to subside, continue using it for the recommended duration as it may still provide beneficial effects.
Can Brimox CV DS Syrup cause diarrhea in my child?
Brimox CV DS Syrup can sometimes cause diarrhea. This is because it's an antibiotic that kills harmful bacteria. Additionally, the medication may affect the healthy bacteria in your child's stomach and lead to diarrhea. If your child experiences diarrhea, encourage them to drink plenty of fluids. It's crucial to contact their doctor if the diarrhea persists or you notice any signs of dehydration like less frequent urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine. Avoid giving your child any other medications without consulting a medical professional.
Do all viral common colds result in secondary bacterial infection?
Most viral infections don't lead to secondary bacterial infections. In fact, prescribing antibiotics for viral infections can increase the risk of side effects. It's important to only use antibiotics after consulting with your child's doctor.
The mucus coming out of my child’s nose is yellow-green. Is it a sign of a bacterial infection?
Yellow or green mucus in the nose doesn't necessarily indicate a bacterial infection. During common colds, mucus often thickens and changes color from clear to yellow or green. Symptoms typically last for 7 to 10 days.
Is there any sign which shows that my child needs immediate medical attention?
It is crucial to contact your child's doctor immediately if your child experiences any of the following: severe allergic reactions (difficulty breathing, skin rashes), gastrointestinal issues (diarrhea), or liver damage (weakness, pallor, vomiting). These are serious side effects and require immediate medical attention.
