Key Information

Short Description

Beniclav Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract.

Dosage Form

Oral Suspension

Introduction

Beniclav Oral Suspension is an antibiotic medicine that helps treat bacterial infections of the ear, nose, throat, chest, lungs, teeth, skin, and urinary tract. It is capable of killing bacteria that have become resistant to other therapies and thus also helps treat tuberculosis that is resistant to other treatments.

Directions for Use

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection.

How it works

Beniclav Oral Suspension is an antibiotic. It has two active agents amoxycillin and clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin works by preventing the formation of the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) essential for the survival of the bacteria. Whereas clavulanic acid serves a special purpose of inhibiting an enzyme (beta-lactamase) that is produced by resistant bacteria. This makes the combination of amoxycillin and clavulanic acid an effective line of treatment for many types of infections.

Quick Tips

Your child must complete the entire course of antibiotics. Stopping too soon may cause the bacteria to multiply again or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Beniclav Oral Suspension. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhea develops as a side effect. Never give Beniclav Oral Suspension until and unless prescribed by the doctor. Do not give Beniclav Oral Suspension to treat common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. Check ‘expiry’ before giving Beniclav Oral Suspension to your child. Immediately discard all the expired medicines. Stop Beniclav Oral Suspension immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to the doctor without any delay.

Frequently asked questions

Can other medications be administered alongside Beniclav Oral Suspension?

Beniclav Oral Suspension may interact with other medications or substances. Before starting Beniclav Oral Suspension, inform your child's healthcare provider of all other medications they are taking. Additionally, consult with your child’s doctor before giving any medication to your child.

Can vaccination be administered alongside treatment with Beniclav Oral Suspension?

Antibiotics typically do not interfere with vaccine ingredients or cause adverse reactions in children who have recently received vaccinations. However, it is recommended that children on antibiotics not receive any vaccines until they recover from the underlying illness. Once your child feels better, the vaccine can be administered.

Which laboratory tests might be performed during long-term Beniclav Oral Suspension therapy?

When utilizing Beniclav Oral Suspension for prolonged treatment, periodic monitoring of kidney and liver function may be necessary to assess your child's condition.

Is it possible to exceed the recommended dose of Beniclav Oral Suspension?

Giving a dose higher than what is recommended can increase the risk of side effects. If you notice increased severity of symptoms, consult your doctor for reevaluation.

Can I discontinue administering Beniclav Oral Suspension before complete treatment?

It is crucial not to discontinue this medication unless a full course of treatment has been completed. Even if you feel better, symptoms may improve prior to the infection being completely eradicated. Therefore, continue with the prescribed dosage until the entire duration of treatment.

Can Beniclav Oral Suspension cause diarrhea in children?

Yes, Beniclav Oral Suspension may induce diarrhea. This is due to its anti-bacterial nature that kills harmful bacteria and impacts the beneficial bacteria in your child’s stomach leading to diarrhea. In case of diarrhea, encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids. If symptoms persist or you notice dehydration signs like infrequent urination with dark-colored and strong-smelling urine, consult your doctor before giving any other medication.

Are all viral common colds followed by secondary bacterial infections?

Most commonly, bacterial infections do not follow viral infections. In fact, prescribing antibiotics for a viral infection can increase the risk of side effects. Therefore, consult your child's doctor before using antibiotics.

Is yellow or green mucus in my child’s nose a sign of a bacterial infection?

Yellow or green mucus in the nose does not necessarily signify a bacterial infection. During a typical cold, it is common for mucus to thicken and change from clear to yellow or green. The symptoms generally resolve within 7-10 days.

What are the signs that require immediate medical attention in children?

Call your child's doctor immediately if they experience severe allergic reactions (e.g., breathing difficulties, skin rashes), gastrointestinal problems (diarrhea), or liver damage (e.g., weakness, paleness, vomiting). It is important to contact a healthcare professional as these symptoms can be serious and require expert care.
