It works by killing the bacteria by preventing them from forming the bacterial protective covering (cell wall) which is needed for them to survive. While it is generally safe, it is important to complete the full course of treatment to prevent the infection from becoming harder to treat. Some side effects may include diarrhea, and in rare cases, allergic reactions such as rash, itchy skin, swelling of the face and mouth, or difficulty in breathing.
